Ruben Amorim has reportedly told Manchester United stars why his predecessors failed to live up to Sir Alex Ferguson’s level of success as he seeks to turn around their fortunes.

Amorim took charge of his first training session as Man United’s new head coach on  on Monday, with the 39-year-old the latest man tasked with leading the club to success.

He will be the sixth permanent boss to follow Ferguson after David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag, with each failing to deliver the Premier League title.

According to The Sun, Amorim informed the Man United squad that previous bosses had lived in the shadow of Ferguson.

The legendary Man United boss had led the club to 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups , and two Champions League titles.

It is claimed players are already impressed by Amorim, who has drawn comparisons to one of his predecessors.

‘He told them that top managers have not replicated Sir Alex’s success because they have lived in his shadow, rather than getting their team to play with his spirit,’ a source told The Sun.

‘Even before Monday’s first session, the players have been very impressed.

‘Then, after the sessions, they are blown away by his energy, approach and confidence.

‘There’s definite Mourinho vibes in the way he speaks and his self belief – but the style is his own.

‘The players think he’s very approachable and that he will understand them. Some of them are calling him Mourinho 2.0.’

Amorim had officially been announced as Man United head coach on November 1, but completed his notice period at Sporting before officially beginning work last week.

He did not have a full squad of first-team players to work with at his first training session on Monday because many of his top stars were on international duty.
