Ahead of ‘Last Rites,’ Horror Fans Can Revisit This 86% Rotten Tomatoes Conjuring Movie in 4K

When it comes to modern horror, there’s no franchise as popular or as impactful as The Conjuring. The case files of real life investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren have been haunting theaters for over a decade. James Wan’s 2013 film spawned one of the most successful franchises in cinema history with sequels, spin-offs, and an upcoming HBO series. The final film of the main series, The Conjuring: Last Rites, will be spooking up theaters this fall. Now, Warner Bros. will be marking the occasion by honoring the first film with a new 4K release.

The upcoming Conjuring physical media release will be a 4K/Digital combo pack steelbook. As of now, the release has a pretty simplistic design just featuring the film’s title on a black background for the front cover. However, the inside artwork includes a chilling image from the film that sees Patrick Wilson’s Ed Warren and Vera Farmiga’s Lorraine Warren from the thrilling third act. This 4K will presumably have the same special features as The Conjuring’s previous physical media releases. The new edition will be $29.99 USD.

A New Wave of Haunted House Horror

By the time The Conjuring came out in 2013, the haunted house sub-genre was extremely played out. However, with Insidious under his belt, Wan knew what made the concept tick. He now presented a masterful film that blended old-school scares, atmosphere, and rich storytelling with ease. It also helps that the franchise was anchored by two generational performances from Wilson and Farmiga.

Thanks to The Conjuring becoming an overnight box office sensation, Annabelle quickly became the franchise’s first spin-off in 2014. While not the best-reviewed film in the series, it led to the demonic doll getting her own trilogy with Annabelle Creation and Annabelle Comes Home. With the release of The Conjuring 2 in 2016, a new demon, Valak, would get her own spin-off duology with The Nun and The Nun II. This year’s The Conjuring: Last Rites will close the book on the main series. However, with the HBO series on the way and hints of the next phase of this ghost-filled universe, The Conjuring isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

When Does ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Release?

The Conjuring: Last Rites will release in theaters on September 5, 2025. Before the next haunt, you can watch the original Conjuring trilogy on HBO Max. You can also pre-order The Conjuring’s new 4K steelbook on Gruv’s website. There’s no release date for the steelbook yet. However, it should be released by the time Last Rites terrorizes horror fans in the fall.
