This is a contrast that’s for the history books.
On the one hand, President Donald Trump, redeemed in the 2024 elections, is at the pinnacle of power and influence. Only moments ago, as of this writing, he signed the One Big Beautiful Bill (Stuff it, Chuck Schumer, we’re still calling it that) while B-2 bombers soared overhead. When that was done, the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, handed the president the gavel used to seal that deal, and President Trump gleefully hammered the desk with it. He’s winning, and he knows it.
Meanwhile, in Malibu, his predecessor, the unfortunate, befuddled Joe Biden, was engaged in a struggle with a beach chair – an epic battle of wills and strength, one that Joe Biden lost.
Former President Joe Biden was snapped struggling to set up a beach chair Thursday before catching some rays with family near his son Hunter’s home in Malibu, Calif., to kick off his first Independence Day weekend since leaving office.
The ex-commander-in-chief — who took more vacation days than any modern US president — looked right at home lounging under a red umbrella with former first lady Jill Biden, while granddaughter Finnegan and grandson Beau Biden Jr. frolicked in the sand nearby.
The photos and video are very telling, and rather sad: A picture of a sorry, lost old man, shambling around the beach, staring distractedly into the distance, struggling to set up his beach chair. He appears unsure and confused, and you know, it’s not the first time.
During his trips away from Washington, viral videos of the 46th president stumbling while walking across the sand and taking a tumble off his bike gave ammo to critics calling out his mental and physical decline.
Thursday’s photos show the 82-year-old former Delaware senator and vice president happily shaking sand from his towel while wearing his signature aviator sunglasses and presidential baseball cap, before packing up.

Now, granted, it’s easy to stumble in deep sand, now and then. But there’s much more to Joe Biden’s decline than that, starting with his embarrassingly bad, halting, confused debate performance against now-President Trump in 2024. After that, not even Democrats could avoid the elephant in the room.
Of course, now he’s just a sorry, sad old man, lost on a beach. Only a few months ago, he was the President of the United States – or, at least, the autopen was. This man, who enters into an epic struggle with a beach chair and loses, had nuclear weapons release authority. Holy moley, what a comparison with our current president, who, whether you agree with him on any given policy or not, is determined, capable, and tough. He knows precisely what he wants to do, and he goes after his goals with all the forcefulness of a steam locomotive.
On July 9th, Biden’s personal physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, will be grilled by the House Oversight Committee – and boy, if that won’t ever be an interesting watch.
Consider how close we came to having Joe Biden’s disastrous term sandwiched between these two, his former boss and his former subordinate, with only one Trump term in between:

Yes, last November, the United States of America dodged not a bullet, not even an ammunition factory, but the entire output of the global armaments industry for the last ten years.
Happy Independence Day, everyone. For more reasons than usual, happy Independence Day.
