The Trump administration’s efforts to bring down crime and unrest in the nation’s capital city just got a boost. The great state of West Virginia has announced that it will send 300 to 400 West Virginia National Guard troops to help make Washington, D.C., safe and peaceful.
Members of the West Virginia National Guard will be deployed to the streets of the nation’s capital as part of the Trump administration’s effort to overhaul policing in the District of Columbia through a federal crackdown on crime and homelessness.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey, R-W.Va., announced Saturday that he was sending 300 to 400 members of his state’s National Guard to nearby Washington at the Republican administration’s request. They will arrive in the District of Columbia along with equipment and specialized training services, his office said in a statement.
“West Virginia is proud to stand with President Trump in his effort to restore pride and beauty to our nation’s capital,” Morrisey said. “The men and women of our National Guard represent the best of our state, and this mission reflects our shared commitment to a strong and secure America.”
The governor didn’t name any specific units to be deployed to the District, but as mentioned, they will be tasked with what looks like support services to the local police, federal agents, and the D.C. National Guard, who are already deployed.
Maj. Gen. James Seward, West Virginia’s adjutant general, said in a statement that members of the state’s National Guard “stand ready to support our partners in the National Capital Region” and that the Guard’s “unique capabilities and preparedness make it an invaluable partner in this important undertaking.”
Federal agents have appeared in some of the city’s most highly trafficked neighborhoods, garnering praise, pushback and alarm from local residents and leaders across the country.
Democrats, local and national, are decrying the efforts, putting them in the amazing position of opposing a crackdown on crime in a city that is not only the capital of the greatest nation in the history of humanity, but one of the most dangerous cities in the country. If this works, the precedent set for other crime-ridden cities, like Los Angeles, Baltimore, Detroit and many others–well, that’s significant.

The District’s local government is, of course, heavily Democratic, and they are now finding it challenging to thread that needle.
City leaders, who are obliged to cooperate with the president’s order under the federal laws that direct the district’s local governance, have sought to work with the administration though have bristled at the scope of the president’s takeover.
It is, of course, belaboring the obvious to note that if these officials, if this administration, had been doing their jobs, if they had been fulfilling the one and only true purpose of government at any level, namely to protect the liberty and property of the people – then none of this would have been necessary.
The Trump administration is clearly determined to clean up the mess in our national capital. Now the first of the several states is pitching in to help, and that’s an interesting development. It’s a development that furthers the goal, which is to return the capital of the United States of America to what it should be: Clean, beautiful, and safe.
Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the “Golden Age” as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
