‘The Terminal List’ Creators Say ‘Dark Wolf’ Season 2 Will Be “Something That Hasn’t Been Seen Before”

In just a few weeks, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is set to take audiences back in time for a prequel series following Taylor Kitsch‘s Ben Edwards, focusing on his time as a Navy SEAL before joining the CIA. While we’re still waiting for the series to premiere, the cast and creatives behind the prequel already have plans for future seasons. And if The Terminal List: Dark Wolf gets a Season 2, the people making it are already promising something entirely fresh. Translated: expect it to be unlike anything you’ve seen before. Speaking with Collider’s Steve Weintraub during press for the Terminal List spin-off, Kitsch didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d return.

“Without a doubt. I’d love to talk about Season 2. It’s up to you guys if we get to go, if the fans want it. We have an outline that is just insanely original, and it’s based on one of our SEAL’s life moments, so it’s rooted and it’s incredible. I think the beauty, too, of playing these guys and being surrounded by SEALs, Rangers, is you’re learning every day that there’s so much that’s going on that we don’t know that they’ve gone through. All of a sudden, you’ll be at lunch and one of the guys will start talking about a moment in Guam or the Philippines or Australia or something, and you’ll be like, ‘Man, I didn’t even know you were in Australia for that moment,’ right? So, I love that part of it, too. And that’s where we’re going to take Ben, if we’re lucky enough.”

During a separate interview with author Jack Carr, showrunner David DiGilio, and producer Jared Shaw, Carr confirmed that the idea for a second season of Dark Wolf isn’t just a passing thought: “It’s been on our minds for quite some time.” DiGilio added a little humor to the mix: “We already shot it, guys. [Laughs]” Shaw took the tease further, saying, “We have ideas. Many times we’ve sat down, this group, and with Taylor, and kicked around if we were able to do that second season, which hopefully we are, [and] what it looks like. We can’t tell you right now, but it’s cool.” Carr closed that thought with another hint: “We’ve got some ideas.” And Shaw finished with the promise that will have fans buzzing: “It’s something that hasn’t been seen before. Just know that.”

The prequel series, which digs into Ben Edwards’ past, was born from a broader discussion about expanding The Terminal List universe between Seasons 1 and 2 of the flagship show. “A big hat tip to Mr. Chris Pratt on this one,” DiGilio explained. He went on to say:

“He knew how busy his schedule was, but he also knew how much he loved these books, these shows, this team, so he wanted to make sure that we gave the fans something in between Season 1 and Season 2 of the flagship series. We started talking about expanding the universe, a kind of 10-year plan of building out these characters based on Jack’s books, and the first person that came to mind was Ben Edwards. Taylor had brought so much humanity to that role in Season 1, and everybody was debating the ending of Season 1 and whether or not Ben deserved his fate. We realized that exploring how and why Ben made those choices, where he started from, and what he went through to get there would make an incredible TV series. So, we pitched that to Amazon, and they said, ‘Run with it.’”

In addition to Pratt and Kitsch, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf will also star Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy), Luke Hemsworth (Gunner), Robert Wisdom (The Wire), Shiraz Tzarfati (The Serpent Queen), Dar Salim(Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant), and Jared Shaw (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). The Terminal List: Dark Wolf premieres on August 27 on Prime Video.
