fter 30 Years on 'Young & the Restless,' Joshua Morrow's Biggest Role Yet Has Him Breaking a Major Soap Rule

As the son of The Young and the Restless’ Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), Nick Newman knows a thing or two about legacies, as Victor has wanted Nick to follow in his footsteps at Newman Enterprises. Now, his portrayer, Joshua Morrow, is getting his own lesson in watching his son’s chip-off-the-old-block moments when he tunes into The Bold and the Beautiful. Crew Morrow has been bringing Will Spencer to life for the past year, and is not coming into his own with a hot, new front-burner story.

Thanks to Crew, Morrow now finds himself doing something he hasn’t done in all the years he has brought Nick to life — watching soap operas. When Morrow made his daytime television debut in 1994, he vowed never to tune in, but that all changed in 2024 when Crew landed his a role on The Young and the Restless‘ sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful.

Joshua Morrow Picks Up New TV Habits

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Morrow admitted he couldn’t look away knowing his son was on the small screen. While he still refuses to watch soaps at home, it’s a whole different story at work.

“I always swore I’d never watch soap operas,” Morrow said. “But I watch my son when I’m at work. My TV is always on their feed. I put it on and I watch everything I can. I’ve recorded his show so I can watch him. I couldn’t be prouder of him.”

While Morrow can still turn on his dressing room TV and watch Crew as Will, he no longer sees his son in the hallways as The Bold and the Beautiful just moved to a new studio after 38 years of taping right next door to its sister soap.

“They just moved their studio and man, I’m heartbroken by it,” Morrow confessed. “I absolutely loved seeing him in the hallway and grabbing lunch, and nothing made me feel better as a father to be able to do that. And then I blink and they’re gone.”

Nick Newman and Will Spencer’s Lives Collide

Not only is Crew following in his dad’s footsteps as a second-generation soap star, but he is also playing a character who is eerily similar to the one his father has been playing for nearly three decades. Sure, Nick has matured somewhat through the years and now has adult children, as well as a young grandson, but Nick and Will seem cut from the same cloth, both on-screen and off.

Nick is the son of business tycoon Victor and his wife, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), while Will is the son of business tycoon Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and ex-wife Katie Logan (Heather Tom). Both characters are also victims of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome (aka SORAS), as they disappeared from the canvas as small children before reappearing a few months later as full-fledged young adults, fresh off stints in boarding schools. Both characters have also resisted working for their fathers. Nick has started multiple businesses of his own through the years, while Will now works for Forrester Creations rather than Spencer Publications.

When Morrow was teamed with Sharon Case’s Sharon Collins during his first year on The Young and the Restless, a classic soap supercouple was born. To this day, Nick and Sharon still have a rabid fandom clamoring for their favorites to finally reunite. While there’s no way to tell just yet, Crew could have the same luck with Laneya Grace’s Electra Forrester, the girl Will is madly in love with, making the father-son soap opera legacy complete.
