Widow of Murdered California Doctor Files Wrongful Death Suit Against His Ex-Wife

The ex-wife of a California doctor gunned down outside his clinic in 2024 has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the doctor’s ex-wife, who is already behind bars awaiting trial in connection with this death.

The suit, filed on behalf of Hamid Mirshojae’s widow, Ghazal Simorgh, and their 1-year-old child, names four other people connected with the August 23, 2024, murder while accusing the ex-wife, Ahang Mirshojae, of trying to hide assets from the suit, KNBC reports.

“This was not fair for my 1-year-old baby — to lose her dad at a very young age,” Simorgh said.

Mirshojae, 53, along with 41-year-old Evan Hardman, 26-year-old Sarallah Jawed, 46-year-old Shawn Randolph, and 40-year-old Ashley Rose Sweeting, are charged in connection with the death of the 61-year-old doctor, KABC reported. Hardman is accused of being the gunman and the others accused of supplying weapons and helping him escape. Mirshojae is accused of being the mastermind behind the plot.

Additionally, Hardman and Jawed are charged in a baseball bat attack on the doctor in May 2024.

According to KTLA, Hardman shot Mirshojae from behind after Sweeting drove him to and from the crime scene. Jawed is accused of “facilitating” the murder and taking Hardman out of state afterward. Randolph is believed to have supplied the ghost gun used in the murder.

Mirshojae was gunned down in a parking lot as he walked from his urgent care clinic to his car at the close of the business day. Prosecutors say his ex-wife was angry and bitter upon seeing him move forward with his life 15 years after their bitter divorce.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Mirshojae cited “physical violence” when he applied for a restraining order against Ahand Mirshojae when he began divorce proceedings in 2009. The legal disputes continued for years, even though Mirshojae allowed his ex-wife to manage his clinic office until he caught her embezzling funds in 2016.

Attorneys for Simorgh told KABC they believe the ex-wife is wrangling to hide as much property as possible.

“We are seeking to possibly unwind some financial transactions that the ex-wife engaged in in connection with the murder-for-hire plot,” said Alex Guerrero. “We do believe that there’s been assets that have been hidden and/or moved to avoid any kind of civil forfeiture.”

All five co-defendants have pleaded not guilty to their various charges.
