The Carabao Cup third-round draw saw Premier League teams in Europe learn their opponents

Newcastle will start the defence of their Carabao Cup crown at home to Bradford City as the Premier League sides in Europe learned their third-round opponents.

Eddie Howe’s men beat Liverpool in the Wembley showpiece in March and have been handed a favourable tie against Bradford, who are fourth in League One.

Liverpool host Championship outfit Southampton, while Arsenal go to Port Vale and Chelsea travel to Lincoln.

Crystal Palace will face rivals Millwall in a repeat of a fierce FA Cup tie last season and Grimsby, conquerors of Manchester United after causing a huge upset in round two, have been drawn away to Sheffield Wednesday.

In an all-Premier League clash, Brentford take on Aston Villa, while Manchester City make the short trip to Huddersfield.

Elsewhere Thomas Frank’s first Carabao Cup match as Spurs boss will see his team face Doncaster Rovers, while Brighton’s reward for thrashing Oxford 6-0 on Wednesday night is a trip to Barnsley.

A pre-draw had been held to determine whether the eight Premier League teams in the Champions League and Europa League would be at home or away in round three.

The third round will have matches in two different weeks to ensure there are no clashes with European competition.
