3 Netflix Shows You Need to Binge This Week

Over the past couple of weeks, Netflix has been dominated by two of its most high-profile recent arrivals. Firstly, Jenna Ortega‘s Wednesday became one of the year’s biggest hits thanks to the hotly anticipated debut of Season 2, Part 1. Wednesday was then finally knocked off its perch by the British political thriller Hostage, created by Matt Chapman and starring Suranne Jones, which was the most-watched show on the platform on August 25. With the second half of Wednesday Season 2 arriving halfway through this week, here’s a look at what else you should be watching on the streamer, with three shows you need to binge.

‘Maid’ (2021)

Rotten Tomatoes: 94% | IMDb: 8.3/10

Margaret Qualley is a Hollywood name on everyone’s lips right now thanks to her newest project, Ethan Coen‘s Honey Don’t!, which debuted on August 22. With that in mind, why not watch Andie MacDowell‘s daughter’s most underrated performance this week on Netflix? The miniseries Maid, inspired by the best-selling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive by Stephanie Land, follows Qualley’s single-mother Alex and her young daughter (Rylea Nevaeh Whittet) as they seek to escape an abusive relationship and build a better future.

A powerful, gritty, and inspirational tale, Maid is a stunning miniseries that has sadly gone under many people’s radars. The first project to put together Qualley with her real-life mother, MacDowell, the story is heralded by both critics and audiences for many reasons, but perhaps none more so than Qualley’s lead performance, which earned her Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe, and Primetime Emmy nominations.

‘My Life With the Walter Boys’ (2023 — Present)

Rotten Tomatoes: 61% | IMDb: 6.9/10

With The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s final season topping the watch lists of many in the past month, the end of the popular teen drama leaves a hole ready to be filled. Step forward, Netflix’s My Life With the Walter Boys, which premiered its second season on August 28. The series follows Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), who, following a tragic accident, is forced to leave her life behind and build anew on a Colorado ranch.

If you’re having a particularly difficult start to September this week, look no further than My Life With the Walter Boys to provide some easy-viewing escapism. An entertaining series perfect for binge-watching, this charming show has managed to impress in its recent second season, with Collider’s Taylor Gates writing in her review, “Silver Falls might not be the most memorable place you ever visit, but it’s certainly not a bad place to stop and unwind for a while.” Why not give it a try?

3

‘Manifest’ (2018 — 2023)

Rotten Tomatoes: 72% | IMDb: 7.0/10

After being cancelled by NBC, Manifest was rescued by Netflix back in 2021, granting it a huge 20-episode final season, with the series since becoming quite popular on the platform. With that in mind, why not give the time travel tale a chance this week? The series follows a commercial aircraft that, after a turbulent flight, lands safely on the runway. However, those on board soon realize that they seem to have traveled forward in time by five years, with reintegration into society their toughest task.

Although many found themselves disappointed with the show’s finale, let that take nothing away from the exciting, twisting tale that comes before it. A clever mystery wrapped in a soapy drama, this indulgent series is impossible not to binge, with its 62 total episodes providing the perfect feast of viewing this week. This might not be the best show you’ll ever watch, but it will certainly keep you gripped throughout.
