Toddler Boy Found Dead Outside Apartment, Marking 28th Hot Car Death This Year

Utah authorities are investigating after a 3-year-old boy reportedly died in a hot car on Monday.

Washington County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lucas Alfred said officers responded to an apartment complex in Veyo and found the boy unresponsive in a vehicle.  Police said the boy resided at the apartment complex, and that he was possibly left in a car after a shopping trip, according to KSL.

No arrests have been made. Alfred said the boy’s body was sent to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

If confirmed, the toddler is the 28th child to die in a hot car this year. According to No Heat Stroke, 39 children died in hot cars in 2024.
