F1 Singapore GP LIVE: Race start time, schedule and qualifying result

Lando Norris, after finishing fifth in qualifying:

On illness: “Last place you want to feel a bit ill. I was struggling a little bit, it hit me pretty quickly but it went away – I;m not optimal but no excuses for today.

On qualifying: “Mercedes are doing a very good job, Singapore has always been a bit of a weird one, we’ve been struggling with the front tyres, every time someone struggles with front tyres, Mercedes is usually the team that comes out on top. The front of the car hasn’t been strong enough, then you have to make compromises.

“Making improvements is the thing we have to work on, we’re trying to win the constructors’ this weekend and it feels disappointing when you’re not quick enough. You feel too slow, haven’t done a good enough job.

On prospect of win on Sunday: “I think you’re asking for a lot, I’m sure I’ll go back to my room and we’ll ask ourselves the same question, there’s always chances in the race but not many, it’s about getting to third or second. A lot of work to do tomorrow.”

NEW: Sainz and Albon set to be disqualified

Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon’s rear wings have fallen foul of an FIA inspection.

“Both cars exceeded the maximum limit of 85 mm on both sides of the rear wing outer area.”

This could see Sainz (P13) and Albon (P12) get disqualified.

Max Verstappen after finishing second:

“That’s what happens when there’s a car in front of you just cruising!

“That was a shame otherwise it could have been close to pole. But this weekend so far has been really good.”

We think it was Lando Norris who obstructed him at the end there, giving him some dirty air…

George Russell, after finishing on pole:

“Amazing to be on pole, yesterday was very challenging but good to come back and get a result. A long sweaty race tomorrow. Very happy to be on pole.

“Singapore has not been the kindest to me in the past, I’m not going to get carried away. There’s a good pole-side advantage.”
