Angel Reese will be walking the Victoria's Secret Runway in New York later in October

Angel Reese may have endured another difficult WNBA season but away from the court, she is going from strength to strength.

The Chicago Sky star announced on Thursday that she will be walking the Victoria’s Secret runway show in New York on October 15, becoming the first professional athlete to take part in the event.

The 23-year-old said she was thrilled to have the opportunity to model in the Big Apple later this month.

‘My walk will be confident but inside I know I’ll definitely be freaking out with excitement,’ she told PEOPLE.

‘It’s such a surreal and full-circle moment — just last year I was in the audience manifesting being on that runway, completely inspired and in awe of all the powerful women walking down the runway, and now I get to return as an Angel.

‘This will be an unforgettable night that I’ll forever be grateful for.’

Reese added: ‘I hope I can inspire women and girls everywhere and remind them that we can dominate in our field but also chase our goals outside of it – and for me, that’s getting to walk down fashion and entertainment’s most iconic runway.’

The WNBA player took her excitement to social media on Thursday too, sharing with her followers: ‘I’ll be walking the Victoria’s Secret 2025 runway show for the first time, and it feels like destiny.’

As for the WNBA, though, Reese has a little bit less to celebrate.

Her second season with the team ended with them once again missing out on the playoffs. Their 10-34 record saw them finish last in the Eastern Conference.

But Reese missed the final few games after giving an explosive interview to the Chicago Tribune, hitting out at the way the team was being run and hinting she could leave.

‘I’m not settling for the same s*** we did this year,’ she said. ‘We have to get good players. We have to get great players.

‘That’s a non-negotiable for me. We can’t settle for what we have this year.’
