Sam Darnold and girlfriend Katie Hoofnagle got engaged during the Seahawks offseason.
It was an offseason full of changes for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, including getting engaged to longtime girlfriend Katie Hoofnagle. The couple announced the news over the offseason as Hoofnagle traded in her Vikings gear for Seahawks threads.
Darnold’s future wife has become a regular at Seahawks games. Back in July, Hoofnagle labeled their engagement as the “best day ever” in an Instagram post sharing photos from the big event.
Darnold’s fiancee also took time to share a heartfelt message about the Seahawks quarterback on his 28th birthday.
“Amidst the chaos of our everyday lives, every day spent with you is filled with an abundance of peace, laughter, presence, joy, and love,” Hoofnagle noted in a June 5, 2025, Instagram post.
“Here’s to another trip around the sun sharing good meals, good music, and good company. Happy 28th birthday to my better half, I love you more 🤍.”

Hoofnagle also makes the cut on Darnold’s Instagram page in a few rare personal messages. Darnold reposted Hoofnagle’s Instagram message on their engagement. Hoofnagle appears to be adjusting to life as a new Seahawks fan, including the team’s customary close games.
“Football & my elevated resting heart rate are back,” Hoofnagle posted on September 8, while sharing photos from Seahawks games.

During an interview with US Weekly in the offseason, Darnold opened up about the couple’s relationship. It appears the couple is thrilled to put down roots in Seattle.
“The support [from] my girlfriend is unbelievable,” Darnold told US Weekly’s Daniel Trainor during a March 15, interview. “The fact that she just understands it. She’s a former athlete herself, and just gets kind of the grind of everything.
“When I just want to chill, she’s very up for that, especially during the season. …She’s great. She’s always been my biggest supporter. And I love her, and I thank her for that all the time.”

It was also an offseason of changes for the Seahawks as well. Seattle opted to trade Geno Smith then sign Darnold as his replacement.
The Seahawks also revamped Darnold’s new weapons by trading DK Metcalf and signing Cooper Kupp. It has been a bit of a wild ride since Darnold was the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Darnold has bounced around several NFL teams before earning a longterm deal thanks to his stellar 2024 season with the Vikings. The Seahawks signed Darnold to a three-year, $100 million contract in NFL free agency, and Seattle’s commitment is good news for the couple.
“We have lives, we have families, we have everything just like everyone else,” Darnold told US Weekly. “Whenever we are on a one-year deal, like, yeah, it’s great. I understand playing in the NFL is awesome and I love every second of it.
“But when you have those one-year deals, which a lot of guys in the NFL are on, you’re always in the back of your head thinking, ‘OK, where am I gonna play next?’”
