IN FULL

Colombia’s far-left President Gustavo Petro, recently sanctioned by the U.S., hailed the victory of far-left Zohran Mamdani in New York City’s mayoral race. Petro posted video footage from a September encounter with Mamdani at the United Nations General Assembly’s 80th session. “Very good, New York, I’ll see you again someday,” the Marxist wrote, likely in reference to the fact that his U.S. visa has been pulled for urging American troops to defy orders from President Donald J. Trump.

In October, the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) slapped sanctions on Petro, accusing him of aiding the global spread of illegal narcotics. Cocaine output has spiked under his watch, and he has pushed for legalization, arguing it’s “less harmful” than sugar. His son, Nicolas Petro Burgos, is accused of channeling drug funds into his campaign. The First Lady and the Interior Minister also drew OFAC penalties.

Undeterred, Petro has insisted he will head back to New York in January for a United Nations speech, “even if the federal government does not want to receive me there.” Lately, Petro’s barbs at the U.S. have intensified, demanding President Trump’s arrest and suggesting someone should “get rid of” him.

Petro is fiercely opposed to Trump’s military strikes on drug-trafficking narco-terrorists in South America. These initially focused on targets near Venezuela, but have since expanded to waters off Colombia.
