While Green Bay Packers fans seem to be losing their confidence in head coach Matt LaFleur after Monday night’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, quarterback Jordan Love’s trust in his coach is “not wavering at all.”

The Packers dropped their second consecutive game on Monday night, watching their offense once again go stagnant while their defense fought to keep them in a position to win down to the wire against the Eagles. They had two possessions within the game’s final minute but failed to cross the 50-yard line — let alone score — on both drives.

Afterward, fans and media alike took to social media to criticize LaFleur’s offensive play-calling, questioning whether his job is safe if the Packers continue slumping in 2025. The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman even suggested he is “coaching for his job.”

I don’t think it’s far-fetched to say Matt LaFleur is coaching for his job the rest of the season.

Love, however, made it clear in the postgame that his faith in LaFleur or the rest of the team’s coaches hasn’t shaken after back-to-back frustrating offensive performances.

“I’ve got a lot of trust in Matt,” Love said in Sunday’s postgame. “That’s something that’s not wavering at all. I’ve been with Matt since I got here. I know exactly what he’s capable of, what the whole staff is capable of; that’s not wavering. It comes back to all of us — players, coaches, everybody — finding ways to improve and get better.”

Jordan Love Confirms LaFleur Called Final Run Play

The Packers had several questionable play-calls on offense throughout their loss to the Eagles, but one of the most head-scratching ones came on their second-to-last drive.

In hurry-up mode with time ticking off the clock, the Packers elected to call an inside zone run with Josh Jacobs out of the shotgun on 4th-and-1 from their own 44-yard line. Love explained in the postgame that they liked the look against the Eagles’ “light box,” though he also clarified that LaFleur made the play-call for the pivotal fourth down.

The Eagles, however, sniffed out the play immediately, so much so that defensive tackle Moro Ojomo could be heard on ESPN’s broadcast shouting out, “Inside zone this way! Inside zone this way,” as he correctly identified the direction that planned to run.

While Josh Jacobs got the ball and tried to find room, the Eagles completely closed his lane and mauled him behind the line, popping the ball loose for a fumble recovery. Even if he had gained the necessary yardage, the officials had called the Packers for an illegal formation penalty, one that the Eagles would have accepted if they had converted.

“It’s a call that we called a couple times going fast throughout the game,” Love said. “They probably heard the call or were guessing. Yeah, there was a D-lineman saying some stuff, but I still thought we had a light box, we could try to run it right there.”

How Much is Jordan Love to Blame for Eagles Loss?

LaFleur didn’t call the cleanest game against the Eagles on Monday night, but Love also deserves a portion of the blame for the many things that went wrong for their offense.

Love completed 20 of 36 passes for 176 yards and zero touchdowns against the Eagles, marking his worst single-game completion percentage (55.5%) of the season. He also committed two fumbles, losing one at the Eagles’ 27-yard line that deprived the Packers of one of their best scoring opportunities with about 30 seconds left in the first half.

In fairness to Love, though, he played much better than the box score seems to reflect. He stood in the pocket and delivered several impressive throws, including a handful that did not wind up as completions because of the mistakes of his pass-catchers.

For example, Love threw catchable balls to Romeo Doubs and Bo Melton on third and fourth down, respectively, on their third-quarter drive that ended with a turnover on downs. With better ball tracking, Christian Watson could have also potentially come down with the deep ball that Love threw him on 3rd-and-20 in the opening quarter.

Regardless, Love expects more from himself and the offense heading into Week 11.

“Like I said before, it’s disappointing, it’s frustrating,” Love said Sunday. “You feel like, as an offense, you’re letting the defense down because they’re doing such a great job. Obviously, that’s a really good offense over there and they stopped them for the majority of the game, and we just didn’t find ways to score. It’s just not good enough, so it’s definitely frustrating, but we’ll find ways to overcome this and be better, for sure.”
