Georgia Mother Charged With Killing 11-Year-Old Daughter

A Georgia mother has been charged with murder after Sandy Springs police responded to a request for a welfare check and found an 11-year-old girl dead.

Police were called Saturday morning by the girl’s aunt, who said she had gotten a text message from Shannon Grimes threatening to hurt herself, WSB reported.

“They arrived on scene and found Ms. Shannon Grimes there with her deceased 11-year-old daughter,” Sgt. Leon Millholland said.

Grimes was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation before she was booked on charges of murder, cruelty to children, and tampering with evidence.

Neighbors were shocked.

“She loved acting,” Mona D’Agostino told WXIA of the little girl. “We’d gone to see her play in the summertime, she was in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ for heaven’s sake.”

“I’m kind of surprised, ’cause, I’m really actually really surprised, because she was, seemed to be a really good mother,” Brent Loux said.

According to WAGA, Grimes was also charged with possession of a weapon.

Police have not released the victim’s name or said how she died.
