An accused New York serial killer who previously pleaded guilty to two murders has been arraigned for killing another victim.
Syracuse.com reports 62-year-old Richard Fox appeared in the Niagara County Court Monday, charged with second-degree murder. According to the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office, he’s accused of killing Crystal Curthoys, 32, in 2023.
Fox previously admitted to killing two other women, Marquita Mull and Cassandra Watson. Police arrested Fox in January and by September, he pleaded guilty to the murders.
WKBW reports that the Watson’s murder occurred in 2003 or 2004, but a genealogical DNA didn’t identify the victims until 2024. Fox later admitted that the killed Watson and hid her on a path in Portland’s Chautauqua Rails to Trails.
Fox, who strangled Watson, had reportedly been in a relationship with her at the time.
Erie County D.A. Michael J. Keane said Fox killed Mull in 2021 and also hid her body in the trail. Her remains were found during an excavation at the trail for Watson’s remains.
Investigators found Curthoys’ remains hidden under the stairs in a Niagara Falls home, where Fox reportedly once lived.
“I do believe that there is other victims,” Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone told WIVB. “We’re hopeful that Richard Fox will hopefully try to ease his conscience a little bit and give us some more information.”
According to the Post-Journal, Fox is also a Level 3 registered sex offender, convicted of sex crimes that occurred in 1993, and again in 2005.
In September, a judge sentenced Fox to 40 years to life behind bars for the murders.
“The families of Cassandra Watson and Marquita Mull have waited a long time for justice. I hope that they can continue their journey towards healing with the knowledge that this defendant will spend the rest of his life in prison for these crimes,” Keane said.
Fox’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 5. Check back for updates.
