Jack Black is teasing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, saying that longtime fans of Nintendo’s classic Wii game will have plenty to look forward to in the upcoming film. Released in 2023, The Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Galaxy was released in 2007 and is widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time. The game introduced gravity-based gameplay, sprawling planetoids, and a more whimsical, orchestral tone for the video game franchise. It also introduced Rosalina, a now fan-favorite character who has since become a staple of Mario spinoff games. Drawing from Galaxy suggests the sequel could expand the scope of the Mario Cinematic universe far beyond the Mushroom Kingdom.

The first official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie paints a picture of just how big the sequel’s adventure will be, with Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad seen traveling beyond the Mushroom Kingdom through star-filled portals, colorful planetoids, and surreal landscapes from Super Mario Galaxy, along with nods to Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Wonder.
