Queen will never perform at Worthy Farm due to the band's political differences with the organisers, the Eavis family, Sir Brian Mayhas said

They would be the headline act that Glastonbury fans have longed for.

But Queen will never perform at Worthy Farm due to the band’s political differences with the organisers, the Eavis family, Sir Brian May has said.

It will no doubt come as a relief to his wife, Anita Dobson, who revealed she had pleaded with her husband of 26 years to stop touring because, ‘I want him home,’ she said.

Sir Brian, 78, is a long-time animal rights activist and founded the Save Me Trust which campaigns for the rights of foxes and badgers.

He previously resigned as the RSPCA’s vice president over the ‘appalling’ animal welfare standards in farms certified under its ‘assured’ scheme.

Sir Brian told the Daily Mail, ‘I wouldn’t do Glastonbury next year because of the politics of the people who run it, unless that changes, I won’t do it.

‘They like killing badgers, and they think it’s for sport and that’s something I cannot support because we’ve been trying to save these badgers for years, and they are still being killed for years, so that’s the reason we’re missing out on it.’

The world-famous music festival is going through a fallow year but the founder Sir Michael Eavis, 90, who is also a dairy farmer, previously called May a ‘danger to farming’ and criticised him for his opposition to the badger cull, which is aimed at preventing the spread of bovine TB.

When asked if the rock band had turned it down repeatedly, May said: ‘I don’t think the conversation of us doing has ever taken place because they know how I feel.’

May and Queen drummer Roger Taylor have been touring with American Idol alum Adam Lambert since 2012 under the Queen and Adam Lambert moniker.

He told the Daily Mail: ‘I don’t know when Queen will be back on stage, it’s an unknown we’ll take it day by day.’

Hinting at new music, Sir Brian said: ‘It was time to take a break and spend time with family, take stock.

‘But never say never about not coming back, the rebuild of Queen Two is coming back, and there are a couple of things you haven’t heard.’

Speaking on the red carpet of Cirque du Soleil, Sir Brian hit out at director Sam Mendes’s upcoming Beatles biopic, saying he would ‘dread’ four films being made out of Queen, accusing the director of stirring resentment between the band.

He said: ‘No, I would dread it if that happened to Queen. I love the Beatles, the Beatles are like the Bible.

‘But four films, I feel like it’s a horrible kind of thing where it’s a competition between them, that can be pretty invidious.

‘I’m happy with the film we made about Freddie, for now, I don’t need any more than that.

‘I feel very proud that we did it for Freddie, not for us, it made it right for us, it was the right thing for us.’
