Trump tells European leaders they'd all be 'speaking German' without US - as he repeats Greenland demands, but says he WON'T use force

Donald Trump has told European leaders they would all be speaking German ‘and a little Japanese’ without US as he ruled out using force to acquire Greenland.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump claimed the US ‘won’ the Second World War while highlighting the importance of Greenland for American security.

He said: ‘After the war we gave Greenland back. How stupid were we to do that? But we did it. How ungrateful are they now?

‘So now our country and the world face greater risks than it ever did before because of weapons of warfare that I can’t even talk about.’

He confirmed the US will not use military force to acquire Greenland amid tensions between the US and Europe.

‘We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be, frankly, unstoppable,’ he said.

Breaking:Trump says US will not take Greenland by force

President Trump confirmed he will not use military force to acquire Greenland at the World Economic Forum.

‘We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be, frankly, unstoppable,’ Trump said.

‘But I won’t do that. Okay. Now everyone says, oh, good.’

He said he wanted ‘full ownership’ of the Arctic island as opposed to a boosted agreement, saying: ‘All we’re asking for is to get Greenland, including right title and ownership, because you need the ownership to defend it. You can’t defend it on a lease.’

Watch: Trump tells European leaders they would all be ‘speaking German’ without US

Donald Trump has told European leaders they would all be speaking German ‘and a little Japanese’ without US intervention in the Second World War.

Speaking about Greenland, he said the territory was handed by the US after they helped ‘win the war’ against Nazi Germany.

He told the World Economic Forum:

After the war we gave Greenland back. How stupid were we to do that? But we did it.

How ungrateful are they now? So now our country and the world face greater risks than it ever did before because of weapons of warfare that I can’t even talk about.

Trump says WWIII may have happened if he was not elected president

Speaking at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday, Donald Trump claimed the world was on the brink of World War III over the Ukraine–Russia conflict and insisted catastrophe was only avoided because the United States ‘stepped in.’

He branded the war a ‘very, very bad situation,’ saying ‘many young people have been killed,’ and claimed he had once believed the conflict would be resolved within weeks.

‘I thought that was going to be one of my easier ones — not the easiest,’ Trump said. ‘Some I settled in a matter of hours. Because I’m good at that stuff.’

The president also renewed his attacks on NATO, arguing the alliance needed to ‘step up’ after relying on U.S. support for ‘years and years.’

He claimed NATO had treated the United States ‘very unfairly.’

Watch: Trump says NATO ‘called me daddy’

Donald Trump has told how NATO once called him ‘daddy’ as he went from ‘running it to a terrible human being’ over his pursuit of Greenland, which he mistakenly referred to as Iceland.

‘I’m helping Europe, I’m helping NATO and until the last few days when I told them about Iceland they loved me.

Making reference to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who glowingly called Trump ‘daddy’ during a summit last year while discussing the Israel-Iran conflict, Trump said:

They called me daddy last time. Very smart man, last time he called me daddy. I went from running it to being a terrible human being.

On Greenland, he said the US acquiring the Arctic territory is a ‘very small ask compared to what we have given them for many decades.’

Trump says prosecutions are coming over the ‘rigged’ 2020 election in stunning off-script moment at Davos

President Donald Trump hinted Wednesday that people would soon be prosecuted over their roles in the 2020 election, which he still falsely claims was ‘rigged.’

Trump was addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, when he made the stunning statement in an off-script moment.

The president was once again claiming that the war in Ukraine would have never started if he had remained in office after his first term.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to invade Ukraine in February 2022, a year and a month into President Joe Biden’s term in office.

‘And it wouldn’t have started if the 2020 U.S. presidential election weren’t rigged,’ Trump told the crowd. ‘It was a rigged election.’

Stock markets steady as Trump rules out force to take Greenland

Stocks mostly steadied today as Donald Trump doubled down on his demands for ‘immediate negotiations’ to take control of Greenland during his Davos speech, though he did say he would not use force.

Markets have tumbled this week after Trump threatened tariffs up to 25 percent on several European countries – including France, Germany, Britain and Denmark – in response to their opposition to his plans to take Greenland.

In morning trading in New York as Trump was speaking in Davos, the main Wall Street indexes were slightly higher, though still well below last week’s levels. At midafternoon in Europe, Frankfurt was down while London and Paris were basically flat.

Trump’s threats have sparked warnings of retaliation at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, with European Union chief Ursula von der Leyen saying that the 27-nation bloc would be ‘unflinching’ in its response.

Watch: Trump mocks Macron for wearing shades during Davos speech

This is the moment Donald Trump mocked Emmanuel Macron after the French President wore aviator shades during his Davos speech.

He also accused him of playing ‘tough’ over pharmaceutical price negotiations.

‘I watched him yesterday with those beautiful sunglasses – what the hell happened? But I watched him sort of be tough’ over his hesitation to raise drug prices to be more in line with US rates, Trump said in an address to the economic forum.

‘I said, ‘Emmanuel you’ve been taking advantage of the United States for 30 years with prescription drugs. You really should do it, and you will do it,’ Trump said.

Macron wore shades during his speech in Davos to protect his eye following a burst blood vessel, his office said.

Trump takes aim at ‘Somalian bandits’ with ‘low IQ’ at WEF

Trump announced that the US is ‘cutting illegal aliens off welfare and other government benefits’ and that there will be no further payments to ‘sanctuary cities’ because they housed criminals at the World Economic Forum.

He continued to say that the government was cracking down on ‘$19 billion in fraud that was stolen by Somalian bandits.’

‘Can you believe that Somalian bandits have to be higher IQ than we thought? I always say, exceptionally low IQ people, how did they go into Minnesota and steal all that money?’ he said.

It’s not the first time Trump has slammed Somalian immigrants, claiming that Somalia ‘does not have anything that resembles a country’ on Tuesday.

Trump to meet Zelensky today

Donald Trump said he would meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today to discuss ending the war with Russia.

The President again slammed NATO and stressed Washington had ‘nothing to do with’ the conflict.

‘I’m dealing with President Putin and he wants to make a deal, I believe. I’m dealing with President Zelensky and I think he wants to make a deal. I’m meeting him today,’ Trump told world leaders at a summit in Davos.

He added NATO has ‘to work on Ukraine, we don’t… We have nothing to do with it’.

Zelensky has not confirmed he would travel to Davos and earlier in the week indicated he would skip the forum to stay in Kyiv and deal with widespread blackouts, heating outages and power cuts following Russian strikes.

‘We should be paying the lowest interest rates of anybody’ Trump says

Trump says the US should be paying the lowest interest rates of all nations because without the US ‘most countries don’t work.’

‘And then you have the protection factor without our military, which is the greatest in the world by far. Without our military, you have threats that you would never, you wouldn’t believe. You wouldn’t believe. You don’t have threats because of us,’ he continued.

Trump claims drug prices will come down ‘tremendously’

‘We have a sacred nations policy that every president wanted, no president was able to get it, and I had to use tariffs in order to get it because they said no way,’ President Trump said of drug costs.

‘In other words, a pill could cost $10 in London, cost $130 in New York or in Los Angeles. And I’d say, well, that’s bad. Friends of mine were saying, you know, we go to London, you can buy this stuff for nothing,’ he continued.

He said pharmaceutical companies had been ‘been getting away with the scam for a long time’ under previous administrations.

‘You go to all other work where you buy it for nothing because basically America was subsidizing every nation in the world because presidents allowed them to get away with it.’

Trump – Putin called me over ending Armenia-Azerbaijan war

Donald Trump has claimed Vladimir Putin called him after he resolved the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict as he reiterated the Ukraine war would never have happened under his presidency.

Describing Putin as someone he ‘knows well’, Trump told the World Economic Forum the Russian President called him to say he couldn’t believe he ended a 35-year war ‘in one day’.

On Ukraine, he repeated his claims the war would never have happened had he remained president and told the crowd it was the ‘apple in the eye’ of Putin.
