‘The Darwin Incident’ (2026–Present)

Based on the manga series written and illustrated by Shun Umezawa, The Darwin Incident is a seinen anime series that explores themes of eco-terrorism. The show revolves around Charlie, a half-human, half-chimpanzee hybrid with impressive physical abilities who struggles to fit into high school and is targeted for recruitment by a terrorist animal-rights organization. Directed by Naokatsu Tsuda and produced by Bellnox Films, the series stars Atsumi Tanezaki, Mitsuho Kambe, Akio Otsuka, and more in its voice cast.

One of the most hotly anticipated anime releases of the year, The Darwin Incident premiered in January 2026 to generally favorable reviews, earning praise for its unique protagonist, thoughtful narrative, and social commentary. Both the manga and the anime are highly original, exploring truly unique concepts and characters, but the story balances out its more peculiar and unfamiliar elements with relatable character development and dynamics. It’s still early days for the series, and we’ll have to wait and see how it develops over time, but from what we’ve seen so far, The Darwin Incident is easily one of the most interesting shows on streaming right now.

‘The Goes Wrong Show’ (2019–2021)

Created by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, The Goes Wrong Show is a British comedy series developed by and starring the ensemble members of the Mischief Theatre company. A follow-up to their two BBC Christmas specials and half a dozen hit plays, the series follows the quirky members of the “Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society” as they put on a series of “live” stage plays that inevitably go wrong due to various mistakes, accidents, and miscommunication. Lewis, Sayer, and Shields also star in the show, appearing alongside fellow ensemble members Dave Hearn, Charlie Russell, Bryony Corrigan, Nancy Zamit, Chris Leask, and Greg Tannahill, with Ellie Morris in a recurring role.

The story of the Cornley Drama Society technically begins with the 2016 special Peter Pan Goes Wrong and the 2017 special A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong, but the series officially kicked off in 2019, premiering on BBC One just before Christmas. It is, without a doubt, the funniest British comedy show released in recent years, a brilliant combination of slapstick and farce paired with intelligent writing and expert production. It takes a lot of work to pull off a series that intentionally goes wrong, but the team at Mischief does exactly that throughout the show’s two-season run, delivering maximum levels of hilarity in each of their 12 episodes.

‘Harlan Coben’s Shelter’ (2023)

Based on the 2011 novel by Harlan Coben, Harlan Coben’s Shelter is a mystery drama series developed by Coben and his daughter, Charlotte Coben. The show stars Jaden Michael as Mickey Bolitar, a teenager who moves to Kasselton, New Jersey, after his father’s death and finds himself involved in the mysterious disappearance of a student at his school, leading to unexpected discoveries about the dark secrets hiding in the outwardly quiet suburban community. Besides Michael, the show also stars Constance Zimmer, Abby Corrigan, and Adrian Greensmith in key roles.

Released on Prime Video in 2023, Shelter received highly favorable reviews from critics, earning praise for its twisty plot and its successful blending of high school drama and darker thriller elements. As addictive as any of Coben’s novels, the series is a highly bingeable watch with great performances and a story that keeps you guessing. Though the show was ultimately canceled after just one season, it’s easily one of the better adaptations of Coben’s work to hit screens in recent years.
