An exurban Chicago woman was found dead Tuesday afternoon after her husband called police to say that he had seen another man chasing his wife on a home surveillance camera.
The caller said he believed his wife was in danger and that the man chasing her was her ex-husband, Oswego Police said.
When police arrived, they found the woman dead inside the home.
A witness reported seeing someone “fleeing” the area, police said, and they set out police dogs and drones to search for him. Witnesses also provided a description of his vehicle and a license plate number believed to be associated with him.
About 25 minutes after the initial 911 call from the woman’s husband, an officer spotted that vehicle being driven by a man who matched the suspect’s description and is the victim’s ex-husband. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop.
“Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect followed the victim into the garage and attacked her,” police said.
An autopsy is to be conducted on Thursday, and no further information was released, including names of the victim and suspect or whether any charges had been filed.
“Detectives have obtained multiple search warrants and have conducted a large area search with the assistance of members from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Yorkville Police Department, Montgomery Police Department, Plano Police Department, and the Oswego Fire Protection District,” police said, promising more information “as it becomes available.”
