Bridgerton season 4 has finally arrived on Netflix and dived right into the next sweeping love story that leaves us swooning beyond belief. This time around, Benedict is the Bridgerton sibling in the driver’s seat as he falls for a masked woman he calls the Lady in Silver during a masquerade ball and spends the season searching for her. But he also falls for someone else along the way.
Sophie Baek, who’s the Lady in Silver he’s searching for (unbeknownst to Benedict), comes into his life unexpectedly. A maid with some bad luck and a worse family, Sophie benefits from Benedict’s kindness and their sparks fly despite their best efforts not to fall for each other. As always, Bridgerton tackles more love stories beyond the central pairing, and this season even teases a death.
Apart from Benedict and Sophie’s winding road to love, Bridgerton season 4 also continues following Francesca through her first year of marriage to John, and even finds Violet realizing she’s open to pursuing something with Lord Marcus. While fans might be expecting a certain tragedy that plays out in the books to happen soon, there’s another twist that could be coming soon for the Queen.
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Bridgerton season 4 part 1.

Bridgerton season 4 part 1 teases King George’s possible death
In Bridgerton season 4 part 1, Queen Charlotte finds herself reveling in being involved with Lady Whistledown and relies even more on having Lady Danbury by her side. However, when Lady Danbury reveals her unexpected admission that she intends to step down as the Queen’s lady in waiting and leave London to travel, Charlotte expresses her fear of being alone when King George dies.
Unlike in the Queen Charlotte series, we don’t see King George in person at all in part 1, but Queen Charlotte’s mounting worries that her husband will imminently pass away seems to suggest that it’s possible he could die before the end of season 4. Nearing his final days seems to be the reason why Charlotte has been keeping herself distracted and busy and wants her best friend to stay with her.
When the Queen cries to Lady Danbury about fearing loneliness when George dies and the possibility of her not being there, Lady Danbury appears to change her mind. However, she realizes that she can’t give up what she wants to do with her life, even for her best friend. Being so, she gets busy trying to find a new lady in waiting for Queen Charlotte, which the Queen isn’t initially open to. She’s starting to warm up to Alice potentially taking over the role, but part 2 will answer our questions.

Francesca’s love story also has an inevitable tragedy
As for the other death that could be on the horizon in Bridgerton, the books features a shocking plot twist for one of the siblings. If you haven’t read the books and wish to remain unspoiled, look away now!
In When He Was Wicked, Francesca’s husband John dies and she remarries with his cousin Michael. The series has been building toward Francesca’s queer storyline with John’s gender-flipped cousin Michaela, but it’s unclear whether John’s death will happen this season or in Francesca’s.
One thing’s for sure, a pair of tragic deaths are coming up in Bridgerton, and we need to brace ourselves one way or another. It wouldn’t be surprising if King George’s death happens at some point in season 4 part 2, while Lady Danbury is still around to help her friend through the initial wave of grief before setting off for adventure. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next!
Bridgerton season 4 part 2 releases on Thursday, Feb. 26 on Netflix.
