A ground stop was issued on Sunday afternoon at Orlando International Airport amid reports that the air traffic control tower may be on fire

A ground stop was issued on Sunday afternoon at Orlando International Airport amid reports that the air traffic control tower may be on fire.

The tower was evacuated, meaning that all flights in and out of Florida’s busiest airport had to be halted.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wrote in its notice that the possibility of an extension is ‘medium.’

The FAA described in the vague advisory that the ground stop was triggered by a ‘fire alarm/safety’ situation and noted that the tower was evacuated due to ‘possible fire.’

According to FlightAware data, 213 flights have been delayed at the airport on Sunday. At least 33 flights have been canceled.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Orlando International Airport and the FAA for more information.
