Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh are starring together in a new Apple TV film called Mayday, and a first-look image has just been revealed. The upcoming action movie centers around a soldier who has no choice but to crash-land his airplane in the wilderness of Russia during a mission-gone-wrong.
Apple just shared a first-look image from Mayday, which will be released exclusively on the streaming platform. The photo shows Branagh and Reynolds’ characters lying on the snowy ground, with disheveled jackets pushed up to their heads and pained expressions on their faces. Check out the first-look image from Mayday below:
Branagh and Reynolds’ co-stars in the film are Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorociński, Lovell Adams-Gray, Clark Johnson, Alex Mallari Jr., Louis Cancelmi, and Alex Ozerov.
At the helm are Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who have directed and written several films together, including Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Vacation, and Game Night. They also co-wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming (Tom Holland’s first solo Spidey film in the MCU) and Horrible Bosses. The filmmaking duo is also set to direct and write the next big-screen Star Trek movie.
Aside from starring in the film, Reynolds also serves as a producer alongside Goldstein, Daley, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Ashley Fox, Johnny Pariseau, and Patrick Gooing.
The actor isn’t a stranger to Apple TV, having starred alongside Will Ferrell in the holiday film Spirited, which ranks as one of the most-viewed movies on the streaming platform and currently holds a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Before Spirited, Reynolds appeared in several movies like The Proposal, Deadpool, Deadpool 2, Detective Pikachu, Free Guy, and The Adam Project. He then reprised the fan-favorite superhero in Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed over $1.3 billion at the box office.
Reynolds’ role in the first Deadpool film earned him a Golden Globe nomination and a Critics’ Choice Award. At the Emmys, he won two awards in the Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program category for his docuseries Welcome to Wrexham.
Meanwhile, Branagh has had an acclaimed career spanning several decades, both in front of and behind the camera. His acting roles include Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Othello, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Week with Marilyn, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Dunkirk, Murder on the Orient Express, and Oppenheimer.
Much Ado About Nothing, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, The Magic Flute, Thor, Cinderella, Murder on the Orient Express, Artemis Fowl, Death on the Nile, and A Haunting in Venice are just some of his many directing credits. Branagh has earned several Academy Award nominations over the years and finally won in 2021 for Best Original Screenplay for Belfast.
Now the two actors are teaming up for Apple’s upcoming action film Mayday, which does not currently have a release date.
