Former First Lady Jill Biden’s ex-husband was arrested Monday and charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife.
The New Castle County Police Department said it obtained an indictment charging William Stevenson, 77, with first degree murder in the death of 64-year-old Linda Stevenson.
Stevenson was found unresponsive in the living room of the Delaware home she shared with her husband in late December, CBS News reported. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
The police statement did not say how she died, although they said at the time there had been a “domestic dispute” and that William Stevenson had called 911, ABC News reported.
Jill Tracy Jacobs married Stevenson in 1970 when she was 18 and he was 23. They divorced five years later. She married then-Sen. Joe Biden in 1977, NBC News reported.
Linda and William Stevenson married in the mid-1980s.
William Stevenson has been booked into the Howard Young Correctional Institution on a $500,000 bond.
