We are all familiar with the liberal tap dance whenever we point out that some awful thing, such as chopping the genitals off of children, is happening.
It’s commonly described as a four-step process:
Step 1: It is not happening.
Step 2: Yeah, it’s happening, but it’s not a big deal
Step 3: It’s a good thing, actually,
Step 4: People freaking out about it are the real problem.
But actually, it is a five-step process, culminating with the claim that liberals never supported it in the first place. We are approaching that stage among center-left people regarding alphabet ideology, and we are well into step five in the COVID saga. I know many people now arguing that nobody wanted to keep kids out of school, nobody was forced to take the jab, and that nobody was censored for disagreeing with The Science™.
Never happened.
For some reason, I have run across several posts recently arguing that the “fat acceptance” movement was fringe, with nobody in the mainstream fronting for the idea that people could be “healthy at any size,” or that “fatphobia” was the real problem people suffering from obesity faced.
UCLA Medical School literally taught that “obesity is a slur” and that weight loss was “a hopeless endeavor” as of 2024. @DavidStrom wrote about it at the time: https://t.co/nxX0iSkIsK

I think if ever a proper accounting of the first 25 years of the 21st century is performed, it will indeed look like this. The Lefties will adamantly deny any of it ever happened. Not the suspension of personal liberties during Covid Panic. Not the transing of the kids; the HRT… https://t.co/HZlyfT2CwK

For years, we have been subjected to unrelenting pro-obesity propaganda, not only in the popular culture, where such fads come and go, but also by medical institutions, which turned on a dime and started arguing that obesity was not the health problem we had been taught it was.
The assignment shocked Jeffrey Flier, the former dean of Harvard Medical School and one of the world’s foremost experts on obesity, who said the curriculum “promotes extensive and dangerous misinformation.”

This is the same sort of sleight of hand we have seen with the plastic surgeons, now saying that there is no evidence that gender surgery on minors was a good idea. First, we were told it wasn’t happening, then that it was rare, then it was necessary, and that we were in the wrong for opposing it, leading children to suicide, and now that it has been exposed as a lie, we will soon be told it never happened and only a few radicals ever supported it.
The heightened concern about black women’s weight reflects the racist stigmatization of their bodies. It also ignores how interrelated social factors impact black women’s health. https://t.co/sqVv8wpHyJ

The AMA is right there with them, too. And the same will happen with the “Healthy at any size” claims, now that the medical complex can sell GLP-1 drugs.
The Obesity Action Coalition has been a primary vehicle for the grassroots movement to accept obesity as the new norm under the banner of “Body Positivity.” The group also gets a third of its funding from the pharmaceutical industry.

Fat acceptance was fringe!
The left wing is very mad about this tweet today for some weird reason and I was alive for the last decade while there was non-stop propaganda about fat being healthy and everyone remembers it, guys. pic.twitter.com/XOcjA4nmOD

Sometime over the past decade, I realized that every time some liberal fad leaves in its wake misery and death, liberals experience mass amnesia. It will happen again with alphabet ideology, once the worm turns, even in Blue states, and just as we learned that “defund the police” was just a metaphor, not an actual policy program.

“Yeah, but I said the medical establishment never said it.”

“You’re so dishonest, I said that this org never said it.”

Sure, a few whackos believed that, but not me!
Sure, a few Democrats wanted to put vaccine-hesitant people in camps, but not me!
Yeah, it WAS you and yours. We were vilified for telling you the truth, and now you deny it.
The funny thing is, I actually believe these people when they say they never held these views. Not in the truth of the statements themselves, because they are manifestly false, but I believe that THEY believe it. They aren’t lying; they just have no grasp on reality. One day, they believe that kids can be the opposite sex, the next, they deny that they ever thought that. Both are true, at the moment they thought it.
Reality is a social construct.
The thing is, of course, that the misery and death they caused are very real, and no amount of self-delusion can wipe them away. Healthy at any size was always a lie, and many of the fat influencers who were celebrated are already in an early grave.
But fear not. It never happened.
