The Las Vegas Raiders are going with a youth movement on their coaching staff, and head coach Klint Kubiak leads it as he looks to turn the Silver and Black into a contender in the AFC.
Kubiak has a track record of working with great head coaches to help him prepare for this situation with the Raiders. Nonetheless, while the experience will benefit the new Las Vegas head coach, he can always lean on one person, his dad, former NFL head coach Gary Kubiak.
During a Feb. 17 appearance on “Unnecessary Roughness,” the former Denver Broncos head coach didn’t hold back his thoughts on Klint becoming a head coach and carrying on the family legacy.
“I could tell after a couple of years being away and sitting here at home and watching him coach at other places and getting those phone calls every day, I could tell how wrapped up he was in his career and what he wanted to do,” Kubiak told Q Myers on Raider Nation Radio.
“You just try to encourage them. It’s a hard business. Very difficult to win and be successful, but I just always encourage him. If you coach for the right reasons, if you coach because you want to make a difference in players’ lives and you want to make a difference in people’s lives, then you’ll be fine. I’m excited that he coaches for all the right reasons.”
Raiders’ Klint Kubiak Has Learned From Other Top Coaches
Moreover, Gary is confident that Klint will succeed as the Raiders’ head coach, citing the coaches his son has worked under to prepare him for this moment.
“He’s worked for some really good people, guys. That’s the key to becoming a good football coach because that old saying, there are all kinds of ways to be successful. But you go back, Klint’s been with [Kliff] Kingsbury before. He’s been with Norv Turner before; he’s worked for me. He’s worked for Kyle Shanahan and sat in those meetings, watched Kyle game plan, and watched Kyle call games.
“Then he gets put in situations working for Mike Zimmer in Minnesota, working in New Orleans under defensive coaches. So you just develop, I think, your philosophy, you develop your confidence and what you want to be, and you do it over time by sitting there watching great examples.”
Klint Kubiak Gets Blunt About Ashton Jeanty
Meanwhile, Klint will have an amazing running back at his disposal with the Silver and Black in Ashton Jeanty. The new Raiders head coach shared his thoughts on the running back entering Year 2 in the NFL.
“Very excited about [Jeanty’s] skill set and what he brings, ” Kubiak said about Jeanty. “I’ve got a lot of tape to catch up on. I saw him play a lot of snaps at Boise [State]. Very excited about his talent. The thing I would tell him and all his teammates is that it’s not just about one guy.
“We’ve got to get the line on the same page; we’ve got to get our quarterback to get the right run checks. We’ve got to get our receivers to go block for him so that we can get the play action going. But as soon as our players can realize it’s a team thing and not an individual thing, we’re going to be successful.”
