The Baltimore Ravens have had a much more drama-filled NFL offseason than many fans were expecting.
At the beginning, things got off to a hot start when the Ravens pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire superstar pass rusher Maxx Crosby. That was the move many thought would help Baltimore take the next step towards Super Bowl contention.
Not long after the trade was made, the Ravens decided to back out of the deal. They held onto their two first-round picks and pivoted to signing former Cincinnati Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson instead.
Baltimore has faced a lot of criticism for how it handled the situation. That being said, the Ravens are in a good position with Hendrickson and two first-round picks.
Keeping that in mind, the team is now being connected to potentially poaching a key playmaker from an AFC North division rival.
Baltimore Ravens Could Poach Key Browns’ Playmaker
After losing Isaiah Likely to the New York Giants earlier this offseason, Baltimore could use another tight end. That is where Cleveland Browns free agent David Njoku could come into play.
ESPN’s Bill Barnwell has named the Ravens as the most likely landing spot for Njoku in free agency.
“While Mark Andrews was re-signed to be the move tight end in Baltimore, the Ravens lost Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar over the first week of free agency,” Barnwell wrote.
“The Ravens signed Durham Smythe to help fill in for Kolar, and I wouldn’t be surprised if general manager Eric DeCosta used a Day 3 pick on a blocking tight end to develop over the next few years. But Njoku would be taking over for Likely here as the second tight end in Baltimore’s offense.”
Njoku is a big and athletic tight end. He would give star quarterback Lamar Jackson yet another weapon and would fill the role that Likely had last season well.
What Would David Njoku Bring to the Ravens’ Offense?
Standing in at 6-foot-4 and a shade under 250 pounds, Njoku has great size. He is also incredibly athletic for the tight end position.
Last season with the Browns, Njoku played in 12 games. He caught 33 passes for 293 yards and four scores.
Throughout his entire 118-game NFL career, which has all come in Cleveland, Njoku has totaled 384 receptions for 4,062 yards and 34 touchdowns.
At the end of the day, the Ravens must make sure that Jackson has as many weapons as they can give him. Njoku isn’t a superstar by any means, but he’s a quality tight end who could make a solid impact for Baltimore. He’s a name worth looking into.
Spotrac has projected that it would take a deal somewhere around two years and $19.9 million to sign Njoku this offseason.
