There will be no great divide on our Netflix watch lists in April 2026. If you’re a fan of the Grammy Award-nominated, chart-topping, sold-out stadium-selling singer-songwriter Noah Kahan, then you’re going to have an especially great month on various streamers.
Not only will Kahan releases his highly anticipated fourth album The Great Divide on April 23, he will also mark the occasion with his first documentary film Noah Kahan: Out of Body. But the documentary isn’t just a collection of performances from his last tour with some behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of his new album. It’s a personal look at things the artist hasn’t spoken about.
Releasing on Monday, April 13, Noah Kahan: Out of Body follows the Grammy nominee following the breakout success of his previous album Stick Season. The album, as well as its title track, helped Kahan crossover as a mainstream artist, receiving round the clock radio play and, as previously mentioned, selling out stadiums like Fenway Park.
Following the film’s premiere at South by Southwest, Kahan opened up about the film delving into personal matters he had hadn’t shared much about, like depression and body dysmorphia. “It’s easy to shut these things away and to compartmentalize them. And when you have a documentary made about yourself, you have no choice but to confront those really secret fears,” he told Variety.
Netflix’s synopsis teases that Kahan faces the “mounting pressure of what comes next” as he closes one chapter and begins another: “Buoyed by his uncanny wit, he searches for a sense of home and creative inspiration as he confronts the deeply personal struggles that have left him out of sync with himself.” Take a look at the documentary’s official poster and Kahan’s words below!
In addition to joining Kahan for performances, in the studio, and honest conversations, Out of Body also gives fans a closer look at his family life. He shared at SXSW that having this film made about his life brought him closer to his family after singing about them in his music. He also expressed hopes that his fans and viewers are inspired to have hard conversations with their family.
“You never really question how you treat each other and what your family looks like and what the context of your life means. Getting a chance to see it like this is a miracle. It’s an amazing opportunity to grow closer to people that you love and that you want to understand more,” Kahan said.
For a lot of fans who discovered him with Stick Season, this documentary might be the first real, intimate chance to get to know the artist you have been singing along to for years. Beyond his social media presence or other promotional appearances, we haven’t quite seen Kahan like this, and that’s a privilege when it comes to getting a backstage pass to your favorite artist’s life.
Noah Kahan: Out of Body becomes the latest Netflix original documentary centered on the life of a popular musician, following in the footsteps of the likes of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes, and many more. The film comes from director Nick Sweeney, who followed Kahan’s life for a year and a half, during a unique time in his life when everything was happening in his career.
For many of those aforementioned artist, and plenty of others, documentary releases have been accompanied by concert specials. While one hasn’t been announced by Netflix just yet, fans should keep their fingers crossed that a Noah Kahan concert special could be next on the list of new releases — even if it doesn’t include songs from his new album!
