Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar attacked Usha Vance on Tuesday, suggesting that she and her husband's values didn't align and that the second lady had traded her beliefs for power

Second Lady Usha Vance is a power-addicted hypocrite who should beware her husband’s remarks about wanting her to convert to Christianity, two famously liberal hosts of The View have claimed.

Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar laid down a biting attack against Vance, 40, on Tuesday, suggesting that her and her Vice President husband JD Vance’s values didn’t align and she had traded her beliefs for power.

‘One of the things that he said about his wife’s religion, she’s Hindu, he said, “I do hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was… Honestly I do wish that, because I believe in the Christian gospel and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it that way”,’ Hostin said.

‘[Usha] has said that her Hindu parents, she’s of Indian heritage, their Hindu faith is what made them great parents. She doesn’t want to separate from that.

‘I think when your spouse is saying, “I want you to be a different religion,” I don’t know. That’s something that is just very far apart to me.’

Hostin herself said it ‘couldn’t be me,’ adding that the country is in an ‘existential crisis’ and that she believes a couple’s values should align ‘especially at times like this.’

‘Some things are dealbreakers,’ she added.

Behar jumped in and said: ‘The whole political scene right now is weird…she was a Democrat until 2014. Her husband called Trump a moral disaster, and yet here they are kissing his butt every day.’

‘It’s unbelievable to me how many people have done a 180 on everything that they believed before for power and money,’ Behar continued.

‘Are you saying that maybe she has done that 180 so that her husband could also.. for power?’ Hostin asked.

Behar responded confidently: ‘Of course! She’s addicted to the power, also the perks.’

‘So that feels like hypocrisy, because this is a smart woman,’ Hostin continued.

‘She is a lawyer, she is Yale educated – I believe that’s where they met. This is a woman who had a life of her own and now all of a sudden maybe not so much.’

The segment’s co-host Whoopi Goldberg jumped into to defend the expectant mother, and said: ‘She’s got a lot of stuff on her mind. And one coming! Because, from what I recall – it’s been so long – that it is not an easy thing to carry these babies.’

In an interview on Monday, the second lady told NBC News: ‘I do feel very comfortable in that no one has ever asked me to engage in any kind of litmus test on anything. And what I’ve found is that; I was myself in 2014 and I can be myself today. And I feel very comfortable in that world.’

‘I don’t feel like I have to walk around pretending anything of any sort,’ she continued. ‘I didn’t that I had to do that [in 2014], actually. Sometimes I have thoughts that fit very comfortably into one side or another. Sometimes I have views that are way more idiosyncratic.’

Vance said on Monday that she feels 'very comfortable' politically, and she continues to be herself, as she did as a Democrat in 2014

JD Vance said that he would continue to 'love and support' his wife in their interfaith marriage 'regardless'

JD Vance said that he would continue to ‘love and support’ his wife in their interfaith marriage ‘regardless’

‘They seem to get bigger and bigger every year,’ Goldberg continued. ‘Her life is her life, our lives are our lives. We all are trying to do the best we can. I’m not mad at any woman who’s trying to live her life. I’m not mad.’

The View host had referenced the Vice President’s comments on his wife’s religious stance late last year at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi.

JD Vance had answered an audience member’s question on a large Republican focus on the Christian faith, during which he had said he hoped his wife would see his religion as he does.

The VP had said at an event in October that he and Usha had met at a time when they were ‘agnostic or atheist,’ but decided to raise their children in the Christian faith.

Usha Vance said during an interview with Meghan McCain in June, ‘I’m not Catholic and I’m not intending to convert or anything like that,’ CNN reported.

She revealed that it would be her children’s choice to be baptized Catholic if they wanted to be, but would also be exposed to Hindu faith and traditions by her family.

After receiving backlash for his comments, JD Vance defended himself on X and wrote: ‘[Usha] is not Christian and has no plans to convert. But like many people in an interfaith marriage – or any interfaith relationship –  I hope she may one day see things as I do.’

‘Regardless, I’ll continue to love and support her and talk to her about faith and life and everything else, because she’s my wife,’ he added.
