Meghann Cooke (pictured left, on the show) appeared on Supernanny when she was just nine years old, clashing with Jo over her behaviour

Supernanny captivated the nation in the early 2000s, with no nonsense Jo Frost sent to discipline some of Britain’s naughtiest children.

But 20 years later, did the London-born parenting expert have her desired impact on the kids and improve their lives, or were they too far down the rotten path to help?

The question comes after a woman who featured on the Channel 4 show when she was younger reappeared on Celebs Go Dating recently, during a date with former England rugby player James Haskell.

Meghann Cooke appeared on Supernanny when she was just nine years old, clashing with Jo over her behaviour. A viral clip of the pair showed Meghann calling out the disciplinarian over her pronunciation of the word ‘unacceptable’.

Now, Meghann is a teacher and TikTok star (with her own perfectly behaved child) – but such a turnaround in behaviour wasn’t in the cards for all of the children who appeared on the popular programme.

Callum Steer – who was in the 2004 series of Supernanny – was arrested and imprisoned in 2023, aged 23, after stabbing someone.

Read on to discover the varying lives of the children who appeared on the show…

MEGHANN COOKE (2005 series)

Meghann appeared on the hit show in 2005, with her well-known ‘bratty’ moments, often compared to the fictional character Veruca Salt, from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, still regularly shared online and watched by millions.

During her appearance, Meghann, now 30, made a name for herself as one of the naughtiest children to ever appear on the programme.

She corrected Jo on her pronunciation of the word ‘unacceptable’, mercilessly mocking the nanny before she snapped back at her.

Well aware of the presence of cameras in her home, the challenging child even told Jo it was ‘her show’, and therefore she ‘could do what [she] likes’, also referring to herself as ‘the director’.

Meghann was particularly savvy with words and in one instance turned to the camera to correct an accusation that she had pinched another child by declaring ‘I didn’t pinch her, I hit her!’ She even slapped Jo during the programme.

In a since deleted clip on TikTok, where Meghann has over 231,000 followers, the now mother-of-one insisted that she didn’t think Jo had had an impact on the family and instead she attributed the improvement in family dynamics to her family growing in closeness.

She explained: ‘Over a few years after Jo visited us, we grew up and the dynamic changed in our family and that made us behave better.’

Meghann is a mother to her own son now, with her sister Gabriella previously telling the Daily Mail: ‘Meghann is a good mum, and ironically her child is an angel. He is six now, he loves school, is very loving and well behaved, we are really blessed with him.’

Now, over two decades later, Meghann returned to the small screen in Celebs Go Dating, appearing on a date with James Haskell.

Meghann told James: ‘I bit her [Jo Frost], I called her a b**ch,’ before he asked: ‘So you were an ill disciplined little nightmare?’ She replied: ‘No. Well, I think I was just challenging.’

As the pair laughed, James told the camera: ‘I mean, I’m a bit surprised about Meghann’s Supernanny revelation.

‘But let’s be honest with you, you can’t judge people on what happened in the past. Because if you did, I wouldn’t be allowed to leave the house.’

The sportsman asked Meghann if she was a ‘good girl now’, and she said she had ‘mellowed out’, since her childhood.

The date itself went well, and a clip of the moment has since gone viral on social media, with even Jo herself reflecting on their clashes in the comments on Instagram.

She wrote: ‘She was a beautiful child who could be challenging in her own right to her parents, as she was very smart and that was challenging for her father especially as he lacked patience to meet her where she needed him too.

‘HOWEVER she was also a child who was incredibly sensitive and one who was caught between a volatile relationship her parents were in.

‘She took the emotional impact for her sisters and protected them a lot too from the environment that was far from peaceful.

‘She was fascinated by my crew and didn’t really realize the full deeper extent of why I was there because she was too young so I believe I felt like a threat.

‘But her mother may she rest in peace loved her girls and wanted them to springboard from the show into some kind of entertainment so no surprise seeing Meghann on here and no doubt is looking over them proud. It is lovely to see Meghann a grown woman. Xx.’

Fans also shared their delight at the clip, with comedian Katherine Ryan even commenting by saying: ‘Casting 10/10.’

Meghann appeared on the programme alongside her two younger sisters, Gabriella and Erin, who were then once again visited in 2007 over their own behaviour.

The follow-up episode saw Meghann telling the camera that she ‘gets on much better’ with her mother, who previously felt like a ‘punchbag’ to her daughter.

But Gabriella and Erin, although the two appeared angelic when compared to their eldest sister, both ended up in spats with Jo.

In one part of the show, an unresponsive Gabriella is banned from seeing any of her friends, only to hit back at Jo: ‘Oh, I don’t care cos I hate my friends.’

Remembering her time on the show, Gabriella told the Daily Mail: ‘I don’t recall at the time thinking we were being filmed for being naughty, just that we had people around a lot with cameras.

‘We were all close to Jo, the camera crew and directors, they would play with us and do our hair and face paint off the camera.’

When asked if she thought the show improved the siblings’ behaviour, Gabriella wasn’t quite so sure.

‘I wouldn’t say she did to be honest, there were cameras in every room of our house 24/7 for five weeks, I do think that any family could get some level of naughtiness captured with that level of invasiveness,’ she said.

Gabriella, who was six years old at the time, and Erin, who was four years old, both said they would never allow their own children on the show, though neither of them are parents just yet.

The pair both described TV programmes of that era as ‘problematic’.

Now in their 20s, Gabriella is an interior designer living in London, while Erin is a professional Irish dancer.

In 2021, the three sisters posted a video on Gabriella’s TikTok account where they answered the question they ‘get asked from being on Supernanny’.

The first, directed at Gabriella, asked whether she still hated her friends, referencing the infamous moment on the show when she said that she wasn’t bothered about being banned from seeing them since she ‘hated’ them in any case.

The next question asked the three whether they get on as a trio of sisters, to which they answered, ‘we still argue sometimes’.

Gabriella revealed: ‘We would get people shout “Supernanny” at us occasionally after it aired, but I don’t feel like it changed our life much like reality TV would today.

‘It’s more the nasty comments on social media that get to me now, when I see people saying things about my mum or how we are as people, when they don’t know us at all.’

Denise, beloved mother to the three sisters, has sadly passed away after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The siblings don’t have a relationship with their father.

Grace Tickle, thought to now be around 20 years old, appeared on Supernanny in 2010 aged five, during a Roadshow version of the show.

Grace, who at the time was very particular about her diet, was marched into Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock to take part in the programme, in the hopes that Jo could cure her fussy eating.

In one clip from the episode, Grace’s mother could be seen telling her daughter they are eating fish fingers, mashed potato and peas for dinner. In response, a defiant Grace can be heard saying: ‘But I hate fish fingers, mashed potato and peas!’ before bursting into tears.

As her parents introduced her to Jo, they complained that their daughter regularly refused meals and would only eat snacks, such as cheese and chocolate chip cookies.

The parenting expert said that Grace had ‘got into a bad habit’ of ‘eating those foods only purely because you give them to her’.

‘I’d take her back a stage… Start off with the foods that I would say are sweeter, which are root vegetables. And don’t give snacks in between right now. Don’t give her anything!’

Grace’s mum then responded: ‘So if she doesn’t eat her dinner, give her nothing then for the rest of the night?’

‘No, none of the other stuff,’ Jo said. ‘It’s a battle of wills really at this moment. So go home and do it.’

Speaking to The Daily Mail previously, Grace said being on the show had directly impacted her life, ‘but not in a good way’.

‘As a five year old, hearing the things she was saying petrified me and only made me resent and not eat the food my parents were giving me,’ she explained.

‘My parents were glad for the opportunity to take me on the show and speak with Jo Frost, however they were not so impressed with her advice.

‘She told my parents if I wasn’t to eat what I was given, not to give me anything else. She called it “fussy eating” which we also thought it was at the time.

‘Now looking back, we realise it was probably something more than just fussy eating… ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) which is actually an Eating Disorder, and Supernanny’s advice actually could have made this a lot worse if my parents were to take it on board.’

Fortunately, she doesn’t believe that the experience impacted her relationship with food, which grew gradually better as time went on.

Grace, who described herself as thriving with a ‘passion for languages and culture’ is now an ‘adventurous’ eater. She said that her improvement with food was ‘definitely due to aging, not Supernanny.’

She also credits the improvement to herself and her parents, who have supported her throughout her life.

She said: ‘My relationship with my parents is and always has been amazing. I’m grateful to have the parents that I do. They have helped me more than they could ever imagine and have given me the life I dream of.’

In 2004, Jo was faced with yet another challenging family – which this time included five young boys.

Paul and Susan Young were parents to half a football team worth of disobedient boys, one of whom ended up in a young offenders institute just a few years after filming.

It was an occasion when even Supernanny, Jo Frost, had little to offer in the way of getting the boys to behave, as the family continued to suffer terrible behaviour even after her best efforts.

The youngest of the boys, Joel was only three years old at the time of filming but just two years later, managed to burn down the family home after he started a house fire using a lighter.

As a result, the family of seven were forced to temporarily stay at a hotel.

Ten years later and the Young family were still suffering with their poorly behaved sons, with one, Jacob, making headlines after landing himself in prison with a ten-year sentence.

Jacob Young was arrested and sentenced for rape and theft after he strangled his victim to the point of unconsciousness.

The horrific incident occurred in the victim’s own home with the BBC reporting that the judge had declared Jacob as having an ‘extreme form of sexual curiosity or unhealthy fantasy’.

He denied charges of rape, ABH and theft but was found guilty by the jury.

Just four years earlier, when Jacob was just 14 years old, he was convicted for another crime after he threatened a 12-year-old girl with a knife.

Callum Steer – who was in the 2004 series of Supernanny – was arrested and imprisoned in 2023, aged 23, after stabbing someone

The Steer family appeared in the 2004 series of the show, featuring mother, Kelly, and her two children, Sophie and Callum.

Jo was called in to help the mother, who’s house had been virtually destroyed by her children (Sophie, who was five at the time and Callum, four).

Kelly was the first mother on the show to ever argue with Jo – though her disobedient youngsters didn’t stop her from going on to remarry and have a further four children.

In 2012, her eldest, Sophie was excluded from school, for unknown reasons, it is believed.

However, Callum took an even more wayward route in life after he was jailed aged 23 for stabbing someone in the neck in his hometown in Crawley in 2023.

Sussex Live reported that after CCTV confirmed Callum was the perpetrator of the ghastly attack, he gave ‘no explanation or defence to the allegations’.

The attack was reported to have been carried out ‘unprovoked’, and Callum was sentenced to eight years in prison for his crimes.

A detective on the case remarked: ‘While the reason for Steer’s actions are unknown, it is clear that he inflicted a serious injury on his victim, who is fortunate to live to tell the tale.’
