Early life and education
Jamie was raised in Champlin by her parents Candy and James Hersch with her younger brother named Jonathan. Jamie started ice skating at a very early age, and eventually started taking classes to learn how to figure skate.

She attended Champlin Park High School and while there reported on the school’s football team’s games, interviewed players, coaches, as well as players’ parents which was then all aired on the Rebel Report CPHS’s student news broadcast.
After being advised by one of the school’s coaches, Jamie sent her videos to Minnesota State High School League, and being impressed by her skills, Jamie was asked to cover state hockey, basketball and football games for KMSP and KSTP networks in 2004 and 2005. She matriculated from high school in 2005, and enrolled at the University of Southern California, from which she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism in 2009.
Career as a journalist
Jamie launched her career as a reporter while she was still attending University, when she started working for Annenberg TV News, Annenberg Ambassadors in 2006, having already worked for a year at the Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp as their counselor.
Jamie was a freelance reporter, photographer, and an editor working on her own stories while going on numerous interviews at a variety of TV stations and networks. In 2007, she was hired to work at WCCO-TV where she stayed for a year as their news intern and right at the end of her internship, she was hired by Annenberg TV News.
She stayed with them for two years writing, shooting, and editing while she was also given a chance to anchor their 30-minute long newscasts and to report live for their nightly newscasts.
She joined the WKOW-TV network in 2009, and served as their multimedia journalist and a weekend news anchor of their “Wake Up Wisconsin Weekend” show, before transitioning to being a weekend sports anchor, a covering few of the country’s best football, baseball, and basketball teams including Brewers, Packers, and Wisconsin University Badgers.
Some of the biggest stories she has covered for the network include The Rose Bowls held in 2011 and 2012, Super Bowl XLV, as well as Sweet 16 appearances in Boston and New Orleans by the Badgers.
In February 2013, Jamie started working for FOX Sports as the studio host for the Minnesota Wild hockey team, and a sideline reporter for the Minnesota Twins baseball team. In January 2015, she went to Kuwait to cover former hockey players competing in the National Hockey League as they brought hockey to the American troops stationed there. After coming back to the USA in September 2015, she became a sideline reporter for the Big Ten Network.
Jamie is currently working for the MLB Network as the host of their “Quick Pitch” show, and is also working for the NHL Network as the host of their “On The Fly” and “NHL Tonight” shows. She is in charge of covering important NHL events such as Stadium Series games, NHL All-Star Games as well as Stanley Cup Play-offs.
Jamie has received several awards over the years some of which are Wisconsin Broadcasters Association: Best Sports Reporting runner-up in 2011 and 2012, and a regional Emmy Award in 2013 among others.
Love life and husband
Jamie and her other half Matthew Q. Burkhard met while they were both studying at the University of Southern California in 2005. They dated for six years before Matt proposed in 2011, while the wedding took place on 15 June 2012. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from USC, and is currently working at Flatiron Health as their senior account manager. Jamie and Matt do not have any children, and are currently living in New York City.
Jamie and Matt are very keen on travelling together, and they often upload pictures of their trips onto their Instagram accounts.
Matt is an avid tennis player and the two often play together. They are both philanthropists and volunteers, and are supporters of the Safe at Home domestic violence organization.
