But he had more than 100 other TV and movie credits, including a memorable role in the original Blade Runner as eccentric replicant creator Eldon Tyrell.

According to Variety, Joe died Monday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California.

Turkel’s first film appearance was 1948’s City Across the River.

In 1956, he made his television debut on the series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp.

He would go on to appear on a variety of shows throughout his career, from Bat Masterson to Miami Vice.

But his most famous roles are as Dr. Eldon Tyrell, the android maker in Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, and as Lloyd, the ghostly bartender in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

Joe is actually one of only two actors to work with Kubrick as a credited character three times.

In addition to The Shinning, he also appeared in the prolific director’s feature films The Killing and Paths of Glory.

When word of his passing spread, fans took to Twitter to pay their respects to him.

One person tweeted: “Sad to hear of the passing of Joe Turkel. His portrayal of Eldon Tyrell in Blade Runner was just fantastic and will always be my favourite.”

Another added: RIP, the great Joe Turkel, who once signed me a Lloyd still at the bar with “Your money ain’t no good here.” Truly a real one.

While one person shared: “I was in awe of how great BLADE RUNNER was at a screening earlier this week.”

Turkel was married to Anita J. Turkel, with whom he had two children.

His last credited film was 1990’s The Dark Side of the Moon.

But his career came full circle when he voiced Dr. Eldon Tyrell for him once again in 1997 for a Blade Runner video game.
