Who is Mayor Cavalier Johnson ?

Milwaukee’s mayor implemented a curfew for anyone under the age of 21 after three people were killed and 24 wounded in nine shootings across the city.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced the curfew at a news conference Saturday, hours after a mass shooting left 17 injured following the Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff game against the Boston Celtics.

The curfew will be in effect from 11 p.m. m. until 5:30 p.m. m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and officers in the area will flag any teen who is “loitering or acting illegally” with citations.

Johnson also said that he is not ruling out calling in the Wisconsin National Guard and that he is in ongoing conversation with Gov. Tony Evers.

“We will not tolerate this type of action in Milwaukee,” he said at the news conference, adding that “people have too easy access to guns.”

Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced that he will establish a curfew of 11 p.m. m. to 5:30 a.m. m. for anyone under the age of 21.

The announcement comes after a bloody Friday, when 11,000 fans gathered at the Fiserv Forum for Game 6 of the Milwaukee Bucks’ playoff series against the Boston Celtics.

The first shooting in the city of fewer than 600,000 people began around 12:30 p.m., several hours before the match, when a 24-year-old man was shot and taken to hospital.

Just about 45 minutes later, FOX 6 reports, a 23-year-old man was also shot and later died of his injuries.

Then around 1:30 p.m. m., a 42-year-old man was shot and taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries.

And at 4 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was struck by gunfire from a passing car and taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

Thirty minutes later, Milwaukee police were called for another shooting in which a 30-year-old Milwaukee man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Police say the shooting is the result of a fight, but continue to search for an unknown suspect in that case.

A third victim, a 33-year-old man, was killed in a sixth shooting Friday at 6:40 p.m. when the sun began to set.

A 24-year-old man was also shot around 7:10 p.m. m., but he is expected to survive.

“There is open carrying of firearms with complete disregard” for law-abiding citizens, Waldner said Saturday, adding that “there is a lack of awareness that is really hard to fix right now.”

“It goes beyond law enforcement,” he said, as Johnson put it, “we need everyone to be part of the solution.”

Over the past year, homicide rates in the city have increased 48 percent, according to statistics from the Milwaukee Police Department.

Now, Councilman Robert Bauman said, he has been hearing from condo associations over the last month or so that they are concerned about the rise in violence, as they saw last summer.

“The police had told me this last year, and I suspect it’s true again: Everybody has a gun,” Bauman told the Journal-Sentinel. They are outgunned.

He expressed concern about the downtown following, which he described as “non-bar patrons who just sit in or around their vehicles, drink, smoke and play music, and are armed.”

“With everything that is happening again, there is no reason why this should not happen again because the same conditions exist for it to happen: weapons, lawless behavior, hot weather with the magnetic effect of a Bucks game.

‘You almost have to pray for the cold and the rain,’ he said.

Bauman also said he had been told that the police now plan to increase their staff and have a large police presence downtown, but he thinks there should also be discussions about security perimeters around entertainment districts, gun controls and elimination of crime. street parking.

“They’re going to have to consider removing all street parking several blocks away to prevent follow-ups from taking place,” he said.

But the bloodiest shootings occurred after the Milwaukee Bucks game at the Fiserv Forum.

Witnesses said they first heard gunshots around 9 p.m., when the playoff game between the Bucks and Boston Celtics was in its final minutes, ESPN reports.

A 29-year-old man, a 16-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were injured in that shooting, Milwaukee police later announced, and a 19-year-old man was taken into custody.

The shooting sent many into a frenzy, and several fights broke out after the game, which the Celtics won 108 to 95.

At 11 p.m., more shots rang out on Water Street, injuring 17 people between the ages of 15 and 47. All are expected to survive, according to WTMJ.

Since then, ten people have been arrested for that shooting, as police recovered 10 guns from the scene.

Authorities said Saturday that the suspects include both minors and adults, and that five of the victims of the mass shooting were armed and in custody.

None of the shootings appeared to be related, Deputy Police Chief Nicole Waldner said.

Police now say Friday night’s mass shooting appears to have been a shooting between “a couple of groups” as Mayor Johnson blamed “a small number of people who wanted to cause destruction in our city.”

Footage from the scene shows thousands of people fleeing in all directions in downtown Milwaukee after the shooting began.

“Everyone started running,” said Brittany Bergstrom, who was at a restaurant near FOX 6. “There was a stampede, people running over bushes, hats, shoes on the ground, drinks spilled everywhere.”

She said her boyfriend pushed her behind a brick wall “and if she hadn’t, this outcome would be very different.”

‘And that’s all I know, everyone ran away and I kept running.’

Police remained on the scene early Saturday morning, blocking several downtown blocks.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS.
