At least two people believed to be the parents of the dead girl could be seen crossing the street in front of the young woman before the collision.
Rally organizers said in a statement: “Sadly, we confirm that the young woman involved in an accident was unable to survive the injuries she sustained.
“At this painful time we want to send our condolences to her family and her friends.”
The president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, said: “I send my condolences to the family and friends who are grieving.”
Investigators are expected to focus on whether the parents of the dead girl or the organizers of the rally acted negligently.
Various signs were posted along the rally course prohibiting spectators from crossing while the race was in progress.
It is said that a police officer was standing near the place where the tragedy occurred, but he was unable to do anything before it was too late.
However, several witnesses told the local press that several passers-by had already crossed the street before Vitoria Yasmin and her family.
