Who is Jake Handling ?

Police are on the hunt for a Just Stop Oil activist who is facing jail time after blockading an oil terminal.

Jake Handling, 27, who is on the run, is wanted by police after missing a court appearance last week.

The long-haired eco-warrior was handed a six-week prison sentence, in his absence, after violating a court order that barred him from entering the Kingsbury oil terminal.

He was arrested 11 days after the warrant was granted, on April 23, while protesting outside the oil terminal in Warwickshire.

Handling joined a group of 100 Just Stop Oil activists who lay down in front of tanker trucks and chained themselves to doors as part of a protest.

He was found guilty of violating the court order and was sentenced to six weeks in jail in absentia last week.

Arrested and Charged

Now the police have issued an arrest warrant for him and released a mug shot of the eco fanatic, showing him with a beard and long, messy hair.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: “Anyone with information that could help police locate him should call 101.”

“Alternatively, the information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.”

Police say North Warwickshire Council secured the injunction on April 14 against groups of protesters who had previously attacked the oil terminal.

The council said it had applied for the injunction as protesters had posed “a serious risk to themselves, residents and the environment during the first week of protest in Kingsbury”.

The injection gives police the power to arrest and detain people until they are brought to court the next day for entering the oil terminal in Kingsbury.

Police say copies of the order are placed “in a prominent place at the terminal entrance.”

Along with Handling, Joshua Smith, 29, from Manchester, was arrested at the Kingsbury oil terminal on April 23.

Smith was given a six-week suspended sentence and ordered to pay £250.

North Warwickshire Council Leader Cllr David Wright said: “Council supports the right to legal protest but some of the actions have created and continue to create unacceptable dangers.”

The injunction gives police far greater powers to detain dangerous protesters and repeat offenders, and today’s ruling has shown that breaches will not be taken lightly.

“Hopefully this will act as a deterrent to others and show that both council and police are doing everything they can to prevent unsafe protests in Kingsbury.”

It comes as, in the latest spate of green protests, a 70-member group hijacked a meeting of Shell’s top executives in central London today by singing their own rendition of Queen’s hit song We Will Rock You, before saying to the shareholders: ‘We dismantle you!

The eco-fans, led by Extinction Rebellion, were filmed disrupting the company’s annual general meeting (AGM), which takes place at Methodist Central Hall in Westminster, forcing it to be temporarily put on hold.

Other protesters clung to parts of the building before being herded away by the Metropolitan Police. There were three arrests.

Chairman Sir Andrew Mackenzie said

It came as Shell is due to ask its shareholders to vote on a resolution supporting its climate strategy and reject an activist climate resolution, another version of which won 30 per cent of the vote at last year’s AGM.

A woman who was removed from the building by police was later seen on the floor handcuffed and crying.

“The shell must fall,” protesters repeatedly chanted during the gathering.

After a while, Chairman Sir Andrew Mackenzie said: ‘OK, thank you. I would like to continue with the meeting if I can’, but the protesters prevented it.

‘That was an interesting start to our annual general meeting. I’ve been listening to you for 15 minutes, could you…’ he added before being interrupted again.

“I don’t want to come to this, but if necessary I will ask you to leave the meeting so that we can continue with the annual general meeting,” said Sir Andrew.

In one clip, a female protester is seen being pulled by the neck by a man wearing a face mask before another protester removes her hand. She then yells at the stage: ‘You are deliberately leading us to disaster, you are a disgrace, Shell must fall!’
