Who is Pierrot Simeon?

Pierrot Simeon was shot and killed Wednesday when he stopped on a bicycle in front of a warehouse on Clarkson Avenue and East 53rd Street in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.

The young killer was caught on camera talking on his phone outside the store before suddenly pulling out a gun and shooting his victim at point-blank range.

Simeon’s Facebook identified him as a member of the notorious Crips gang, but his distraught family described him as a young worker and don’t know who would want to hurt him.

The execution in daylight marks just the latest horrific incident to rocked the Big Apple in recent months, as crime soars and fears mount that the city will revert to the dark days of the ’70s and’ 80s, when violence was widespread.

Shootings are up 29 percent so far this year compared to the same period last year, and Mayor’s Leader Eric Adams warned this week that ‘no one will return’ to New York City if the wave of crimes continues in the same trend.

Shooting police continue to search

NYPD released surveillance footage from Wednesday’s shooting as police continue to search for the killer.

The incident unfolded at 2:20 p.m. when Simeon left his nearby home to buy a drink at his local winery, his family told the NY Daily News.

Chilling surveillance footage shows the killer, wearing a durag, gray T-shirt, gray and white basketball shorts and Nike shoes, talking on his phone as the front of a CitiBike comes into view.

The suspect is seen casually putting his phone in his pocket and walking towards the cyclist, who is off-camera.

He then draws a pistol from a fanny pack around his shoulder and shoots Simeon several times as he walks away from the store entrance.

Police said Simeon was shot three times in the torso and left forearm.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Law enforcement sources told the Daily News they believe the execution was gang-related, and that the victim’s Facebook identified him as a member of the notorious Crips gang.

But Simeon’s distraught family told the outlet that they were shocked by his brutal murder and did not know who would want to hurt him.

“ He went to the store to get a drink, soda or water. A neighbor came up and said that he was depressed. They had shot him, ” said a relative who did not want to be identified.

They described the 21-year-old as a young worker who worked at a Walgreen’s store.

‘He was very respectful, kind and down to earth. He was always willing to help, ”said the relative.

“ He was a hard-working cashier at Walgreens. This is terrible news. We are only mourning the loss. ‘

The shooting comes amid a growing crime wave in New York City, with gun violence rising and attacks on the city’s subway systems and on the streets increasingly common.

Data from the New York Police Department shows that shootings increased 28.9 percent in 2021 compared to last year through July 11, with 803 incidents compared to 623 in 2020.

Shooting victims also increased a staggering 22.2 percent year-over-year, with 931 people being victims of gun crime compared to 623 at this time last year.

The number of murders has also risen from 215 to 225 in the same time period, an increase of 4.7 percent.

Rape has increased by 7.3 percent and other sexual crimes by 25.9 percent.

The biggest jump in crime rates is for hate crimes, which have increased 118.2 percent in the last year.

This data comes amid numerous random attacks on Asian-Americans in the city, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the rise in violent incidents, fears mount that the city will return to the dark days of the 1970s and 1980s, when crime was rife.

Back then, New York earned the nickname ‘City of Fear’ due to its prevalence of crime and disorder.

In the 1970s, the city faced $ 10 billion in debt and funds were cut for police and other services.

The dark days continued until the 1980s when the crack epidemic devastated the city.

All crime types increased, and at their peak, someone was killed every 63 hours in the worst-hit parts, such as East New York and Cypress Hill.

Brooklyn Borough President appeared at an event with Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday when the two political leaders

Adams, the former cop who ran his campaign for mayor with an anti-crime stance, warned Wednesday that “no one is going back” if the violence, and particularly gun violence, continues in the Big Apple.

The Brooklyn Borough President appeared at an event with Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday when the two political leaders presented a united front to address the worrying rise in crime.

“No one will go back to our multibillion dollar tourism industry if 3-year-olds are shot in Times Square,” Adams said.

Adams, 60, won the Democratic primary for this year’s mayoral race and will become mayor of New York if he defeats Republican Curtis Sliwa in the general election.

He and Cuomo sought to reassure New Yorkers that their primary focus for New York City will be public safety and economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Adams compared New York City’s Washington Square Park to a San Francisco ‘shantytown’ after nearby residents complained of drug use and noisy late-night raves.

‘My son and I walk in the park often just to talk. Someone is sitting next to us, shooting heroin. The police [are] there, ‘Adams said.

“There is a feeling that we have a city where anything goes.”

The mayoral candidate also criticized New York judges and bond reform laws for failing to do their part to combat rising crime rates.

He also said judges are not using the tools at their disposal, such as Kendra’s Law, which allows courts to order mental health treatment in some cases.

Our judges do not grant bail in cases where they are allowed to do so. They refuse to use Kendra’s Law on mental health issues, ‘Adams said.

“We have raised our hands and we have surrendered our city. It’s time for us to make sure our city is for the working class, the common people who follow the laws and say the government will make sure we protect them. ‘

This came just days after Adams met with President Joe Biden at the White House on Monday to discuss the recent spike in gun violence.

He called for a more holistic approach to crime reduction after Biden announced a strategy that encourages cities to use $ 1.9 billion in COVID-19 relief funds to hire more police officers, among other things.
