Biden taps Stephen Curry, Chloe Kim for presidential fitness council 

President Biden is expanding his roster. 

NBA star Stephen Curry and his restauranteur wife Ayesha Curry, Phillies baseball icon Ryan Howard and Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim are among the almost 30 new appointees to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. 

The mission of this federal advisory committee, which has also included “Terminator” star and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Yankees legend Mariano Rivera as past chairpersons, is to “promote healthy, accessible eating and physical activity for all Americans,” the White House said in a press release on Friday morning. The council also focuses on “expanding national awareness of the importance of mental health as it pertains to physical fitness and nutrition.”

  • Dr. Maribel Campos Rivera: She’s a physician who is board-certified in pediatrics, neonatal and perinatal medicine and obesity medicine.

  • Tamika Catchings: She’s a 10-time WNBA All-Star, five-time Defensive Player of the Year, and a WNBA Champion.

  • Ayesha Curry: She is a renowned restauranteur, chef, two-time New York Times bestselling author, producer, host and entrepreneur. 

  • Stephen Curry: He’s the Golden State Warriors point guard holding nine NBA All-Star selections and four NBA Championships, and the all-time leading scorer in Warriors history. 

  • Jon Feinman: He’s the founder and CEO of InnerCity Weightlifting, building upon his experience in AmeriCorps and as a personal trainer.

  • Tina Flournoy: She has served as chief of staff to Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Bill Clinton. 

  • Jose Garces: The Iron Chef and James Beard Award-winning entrepreneur and food innovator is a leading culinary authority of Spanish and Latin-American food.

  • J. Nadine Gracia: As the president and CEO of the nonprofit Trust for America’s Health, she advocates for the optimal health for every person and community. 

  • Meg Ham: The president of the Food Lion grocery chain, she leads 82,000 associates that provide food to approximately 10 million customers across the Southeaster and Mid-Atlantic states. 

  • Kahina Haynes: She’s the executive director of  The Dance Institute of Washington in D.C., working toward equity in community health. 

  • Ryan Howard: He’s a former Major League Baseball player who spent most of his career playing first base for the Phillies. He became the fastest player to reach 100 and 200 home runs. 

  • Martin E. Ingelsby: He’s the head basketball coach at the University of Delaware who just finished his seventh season leading the Blue Hens.

  • Barbie Izquierdo: She’s the director of advocacy for neighbors engagement at Feeding America, and the founder of Community Driven Consulting LLC.

  • Ben Jacobs: He is a tribal member of the Osage Nation of northeast Oklahoma, and co-founder of Tocabe: An American Indian Eatery and Tocabe Indigenous Marketplace based in Denver.

  • Chloe Kim: She became the first female in history to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals in halfpipe snowboarding while representing the United States at the Winter Games in 2018 and 2022.

  • Chaunte Lowe: She is an Olympic high jumper who has competed in four Olympic Games, as well as a 12-time U.S. national champion in her sport.

  • Dr. Viviana Martinez-Bianchi: She is a family doctor, associate professor and director for health equity at Duke University’s Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. She also co-founded LATIN-19, the Latinx Advocacy Team and Interdisciplinary Network for COVID-19, which is a multi-sector group addressing Hispanic health during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

  • Elana Meyers Taylor: She is the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Olympic history, winning five Olympic medals in four Olympic Games for Team USA as a bobsledder.

  • Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian: He is a cardiologist, Jean Mayer Professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.

  • Kim Ng: She is the highest-ranking woman in baseball operations among the 30 MLB teams, and was the first woman hired to the general manager position by any of the professional men’s sports teams in the North American Major Leagues. 

  • Allison O’Toole: She is the CEO of Second Harvest Heartland, a regional food bank that aims to change the way hunger is addressed in America. 

  • Dr. Oluwaferanmi Oyedeji Okanlami: He is an assistant professor of family medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and urology at Michigan Medicine, as well as an adjunct assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at UCLA.

  • Laura Ricketts: She is an entrepreneur, community advocate and co-owner of the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball Club.

  • Stefany Shaheen: She is an advocate, entrepreneur and business leader who co-founded Good Measures, which works to harness the power of food as medicine.

  • Billy Shore: He is the founder and executive chair of Share Our Strength, which through campaigns like No Kid Hungry and Cooking Matters, has reduced childhood hunger across the United States. 

  • Michael Solomonov: He is co-owner of CookNSolo Restaurants, and is a chef widely recognized for bringing Israeli cuisine to diners across the U.S. and around the world.

  • Melissa Stockwell: She is the first female American soldier to lose a limb in Operation Iraqi Freedom. She was honored with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for her service. And she has become one of the world’s most elite Para-triathletes, winning three world championship titles and becoming the 2016 Paralympic Bronze Medalist.
