Netflix, long criticised for a lack of transparency about the popularity of its shows and movies, said it will begin releasing a “comprehensive deep dive” into what its subscribers are watching around the world every six months.
Its first report, released on Tuesday, provided viewer data on more than 18,000 titles, representing a total of nearly 100bn hours viewed, Netflix said.
Audience transparency on streaming services was a key issue during the Hollywood strikes this year. Writers and actors demanded to receive residuals when their shows performed well on streaming — but that required more information about the streaming services’ measures of success.
