The TV presenter ¿ who will return to screens with Challenge Anneka later this year ¿ has moved out of the house overlooking the Thames in Barnes, south-west London

She famously enjoys a challenge, so it is not surprising that Anneka Rice embraced her most recent task with typical energy.

But this was one which she set herself: To pack up her beloved six-bedroomed riverside home after putting it up for sale for £4million-plus.

The TV presenter – who will return to screens with Challenge Anneka later this year – has moved out of the house overlooking the Thames in Barnes, south-west London.

Miss Rice, 63, said she is getting rid of ‘35 years of stuff’, with 17 items to go under the hammer for TV show The Yorkshire Auction House.

Lots include a George Smith Howard sofa, expected to fetch up to £2,000, and a Georgian bookcase, which could go for up to £800.

Other items include an 18th-century walnut side chair, Regency-style cabinet, 17th century-style oak Wake table, billiards table and croquet set.

The mother-of-three shared a video of antiques expert Angus Ashworth stripping the property ahead of the auction on Friday.

On Instagram, she posted: ‘Let it go. Can’t hold it back anymore. I’m going to be a wreck when the truck drives away with 35 years of stuff…’

Another picture shows her standing in the back of a removals lorry with the caption: ‘Goodbye life!’

Miss Rice, who also owns a home on the Isle of Wight, bought the Grade II-listed, bow-fronted property in 1987 with Nick Allott, now her ex-husband.

It has three bathrooms, two large reception rooms, a wood-panelled billiards room and a dining area overlooking a courtyard garden.

There is also a playroom and a garage.

The house – more recently listed for £4.25million – is described as ‘sold, Subject To Contract’ on property website Rightmove. It is unclear if it sold for asking price.

Miss Rice said she was initially hesitant about the property but said her ‘heart flipped’ on viewing it.

Recalling the moment, she told the Times last year: ‘This was my house! The beautiful, corniced room had a fireplace… but it was the 180-degree view of the River Thames splayed out before me through the floor-to-ceiling bay windows that stopped me in my tracks…

‘By the time we got to the top floor I had moved in along with my production office, had at least six children, taken up rowing and wondered whether Gyles [Brandreth] could share one of his knitting patterns so that we could co-ordinate with a picnic by the river.’

She said Clare Balding and her wife Alice Arnold would ‘pop in with the lame excuse to see me, but within seconds they’ve used the loo and powered off again down the riverbank’.

Miss Rice was married to Mr Allott for four years. They have sons Thomas and Josh.

She is also mother to Sam Gutteridge whose father is TV executive Tom Gutteridge.

Miss Rice will return to screens later this year for a revived Challenge Anneka.

The reality show, which first aired on the BBC in 1989, saw the Lycra-clad presenter tasked with completing a challenge over a period of days.
