Happy Valley viewers have claimed Ryan’s school football coach Mr Hepworth is not to be trusted, after he told the student he could confide in him with his issues.
Last week’s episode saw Sergeant Catherine Cawood follow her 16-year-old grandson as he made his visit to see his father Tommy Lee Royce in prison, accompanied by her sister Claire Cartwright and her partner Neil Ackroyd.
But questions were raised when Claire doesn’t go to the prison but instead heads to a coffee shop in Sheffield and lies to Catherine about her whereabouts – only to be ambushed by her sister.
Eek! Happy Valley viewers have claimed Ryan’s school football coach Mr Hepworth is not to be trusted, after he told the student he could confide in him with his issues
During Sunday’s episode of the BBC drama, Mr Hepworth (played by Mark Stanley) seemed surprise to learn Ryan’s (Rhys Connah) father was in prison and told the teenager he could confide in him.
In a scene down a school corridor, he said: ‘Ryan, just to say you played very well on Saturday. I’m glad we’ve cleared the air. You made some very respectable saves…. What’s the matter?’
Ryan’s friend then chimed in: ‘Tell him, whatever the hell he’s done, to apologise to his granny. He’s had a bust up with his granny so he’s gone to live with his auntie Claire and she’s a bit flaky.’
When Mr Hepworth asked what it was about and the friend replied, ‘His dad,’ the member of staff replied, ‘I didn’t know you had one.’
Oh dear! When he followed up on the offer later on, while telling Ryan about the troubled state of his own marriage, viewers shared their concerns on Twitter
The friend added: ‘He’s in prison,’ before Mr Hepworth said to Ryan, ‘Do you want to talk about it to someone? Could help. Doesn’t have to be me or… could be. Be good to talk.’
