For those of you who are not aware, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have four children. Their eldest child is a daughter named North West. North was born in June 2013. So she’s 12 right now.

Perhaps not surprisingly, North West is a budding social media star. She currently has 2.5 million followers on Instagram and 21 million followers on TikTok. Her TikTok is huge because it’s a shared account with her mom. According to a disclaimer displayed prominently at the top of her accounts, the pages are “managed by parents,” which makes sense because, again, she is 12.

If you were to follow North on social media, you would find an endless stream of dance videos featuring North and her friends wearing ridiculous outfits and brightly colored wigs. For example, here’s a video that came across my social feed today:

Now, in case you didn’t already notice, the caption of the above video (which was not actually posted by North) says:

“I’m amazed to learn that North’s friend, the one with pink hair, is richer than North’s entire family.”

FYI, according to our most recent count, the Kardashian family’s combined net worth (including Kanye) is around $3.5 billion, with Kim’s $2 billion net worth contributing the largest share. If you search Twitter, TikTok, or Instagram, you would see thousands of videos with similar captions.

“Everleigh” vs. “Leah Ruby”

Ok, so I spent way more time than I’d like to admit digging into this question. Here’s what I discovered after going down about a dozen rabbit holes and watching wayyyyy too many of North West’s social media videos.

Two girls frequently appear in North’s videos. Their names are “Everleigh” and “Leah Ruby.” From my investigating, I concluded that basically nothing is known about Leah Ruby or her parents. The friend who is supposedly a multibillionaire is Everleigh.

The reason people think Everleigh is a billionaire heiress is that her grandfather is David Overton. I’m sorry to tell you that David is NOT a multi-billionaire, but he is very rich! And the reason he is very rich is that he is the founder and CEO of…

The Cheesecake Factory

In the late 1940s, a woman named Evelyn Overton found a recipe for cheesecake in a local Detroit newspaper. She tweaked it, perfected it, and began selling cakes to the best restaurants in town.

By 1972, Evelyn and her husband, Oscar, moved to Los Angeles to open a small wholesale bakery. Their son, David Overton, was a professional drummer at the time, playing clubs in San Francisco. He eventually joined the family business to help them scale, but he had a vision that went beyond wholesale. He realized that if he opened a restaurant, he could showcase his mother’s entire line of desserts in one place.

In 1978, David opened the first The Cheesecake Factory in Beverly Hills. It was an immediate hit, known for its sprawling menu and, of course, the cheesecakes. David took the company public in 1992 and has served as Chairman and CEO ever since, growing it into a global brand with over 300 locations and $3.5 billion in annual revenue. The company’s market cap is $3.15 billion. I have a feeling these two numbers are getting mish-mashed by people on social media who think all that revenue and market cap go directly to the founder.

How Rich is David Overton?

As of April 2026, David Overton is the single largest individual shareholder of The Cheesecake Factory. He owns about 7.2% of the entire company. The rest is owned by massive investment firms like BlackRock and Vanguard. He owns approximately 3.3 million to 3.5 million shares, held primarily through the David M. Overton Family Trust.

With the stock currently trading around $62 per share, his stake in the company is worth roughly $215 million.

Over the last several years, David’s total compensation package has consistently hovered around $8 million to $9 million per year. For the most recent fiscal year, his pay was broken down roughly like this:

  • Base Salary: $1,073,000
  • Stock Awards: $5,700,000 (These are shares he receives as a bonus that “vest” over time)
  • Cash Bonuses: $1,350,000
  • Other Perks: ~$40,000

When you add up his stock holdings, his decades of high-salary earnings, and his history of selling off small portions of his stock (he sold about $22 million worth of shares between 2021 and 2025), David Overton’s net worth is estimated to be between $250 million and $300 million.

Is David Overton incredibly wealthy? Absolutely. He is one of the most successful restaurant executives in history. But is his family “richer than the Kardashians”? Not even close.

Ultimately, this is just a classic case of the internet playing a bad game of telephone. And while Everleigh might not be wealthier than North West, she does have a very wealthy grandfather and she likely gets all the free cheesecake she wants. Not a bad life!
