Karl Stefanovic has been issued a formal caution for ‘touching’ a male waiter at a charity event he attended in Brisbane with wife Jasmine Yarbrough.

Queensland Police have finished their investigation into the incident at a Mercedes-Benz melanoma charity event in the riverside suburb of Newstead on August 20 last year.

‘A 48-year-old Sunshine Beach man has been issued an adult caution for common assault,’ a police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia.

‘The matter has now been finalised from a police perspective.’

While Stefanovic and 39-year-old Yarbrough live at Castlecrag on Sydney’s north shore they also own a five-bedroom house at Sunshine Beach in Noosa, bought for $3.6million in 2020.

An adult caution is a formal warning that may be administered by a police officer under Queensland’s Adult Cautioning Scheme. Cautioning provides a means of dealing with lower-end, non-habitual offending.

Queensland Police revealed last September they were investigating a report regarding the alleged assault of a man at a Newstead business.

‘As investigations are ongoing it would be inappropriate to comment further,’ they said.

‘It is understood the matter has been discussed privately between the parties to seek a resolution.’

The waiter, who had been bartending for the Mr. Consistent catering company, lodged a report after he was allegedly touched by Stefanovic when he hosted the six-hour charity event.

A spokeswoman for the business told Daily Mail Australia at the time: ‘Mr. Consistent prioritises the safety of their staff and any police investigation, and declines to comment on any allegations.’

It is understood detectives collected a statement from at least one person at the fundraiser.

The function, organised by charity group The Six Hour Project and billed as A Night For Melanoma, was attended by about 350 guests and raised $290,000 for skin cancer research.

Stefanovic and Yarbrough shared photos on Instagram of themselves dressed in formal attire as they mingled with patrons during the evening.

The pair mingled with guests and posed for photographs with organisers and fans at the gala – largely while wearing a white baseball cap which read ‘f**k cancer’.

At one stage, Stefanovic tried to entice guests onto the dancefloor by hollering ‘come on…get up’ into a microphone to the ’70s disco hit ‘Le Freak’ by Chic.

He was also pictured posing next to melanoma sufferer and event organiser Gina Savage. ‘Gina, courage, resilience and beauty,’ Stefanovic wrote in a caption.

‘We just lifted the roof for you, your battles, your charity and everyone else fighting melanoma.’

Ms Savage had previously appeared in an interview on Today with Stefanovic to tell the story of her diagnosis before the pair reunited to hold the fundraiser.

Proceeds from the night were donated to The Mater Foundation and Melanoma Institute of Australia to raise awareness, increase detection and find a cure for the cancer.
