Lisa Marie Presley

An awkward television interview with Lisa Marie Presley has resurfaced following her death on Thursday at the age of 54.

The daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley sat down with Aussie TV host Rove McManus in 2004 to promote her new album, but offered brief, stilted answers and seemed not to understand his questions.

‘Was [recording the album] something you enjoyed doing or something you felt you had to do to get it out?’ McManus asked.

‘Which part? Do you mean timing-wise?’ she responded.

‘I know some of the songs on the album, for example, you re-wrote four times. Was it something you were holding off on doing? Because I would think the longer you leave it, the more expectation there might be,’ McManus said.

‘I think it was just production and me being crazy and neurotic and… anal,’ she replied, followed by an awkward pause.

Elsewhere in the interview, McManus asked: ‘Was there ever a plan that you would do anything other than sing?’

‘No, I started singing when I was two,’ Presley responded curtly.

Earlier on Thursday, Presley was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and was said to be in a coma following a ‘full cardiac arrest’ shortly after she had been complaining about stomach pains, according to TMZ.

Her mother Priscilla, who was at her daughter’s side, said in a statement: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.

‘She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.’

Lisa Marie owned and operated the immensely lucrative Elvis Presley Enterprises until 2005, when she sold off all of the business.

She is still the owner of Graceland, Elvis’ famed Memphis estate. When her father died in 1977, she was only aged nine.

She is also known for her high-profile marriages to actor Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and musical companions Danny Keough and Michael Lockwood.
