Heather Gay and Jen Shah have had a tumultuous friendship throughout their time on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

But despite the ups and downs, Heather has vowed to stick by Jen’s side – even as the reality star faces a federal fraud trial.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Australia, Heather, 40, said that she’s drawn to Jen’s charismatic energy and ‘superstar’ persona.

‘She’s unlike any human being you’ve ever met,’ the Bad Mormon author gushed.

‘And as much as you think you know her and can predict her or judge her or evaluate her based on the show, it is one umpteenth of the charisma, the magnetism, the star power and the force of energy that she is,’ Heather continued.

‘She is a superstar and that doesn’t mean that she’s perfect. That means that she’s valuable and flawed and crazy, just like every superstar on the planet.’

Heather also said that she’s standing by Jen amid the troubled star’s legal woes, which could see her spend years behind bars.

‘I have more fun with Jen than anyone on the planet, and if I’m gonna enjoy her when she’s up and she’s MVP and the world loves her, I’m gonna be there for her when everyone is disparaging her and not showing up,’ she explained.

‘Because that is where the good stuff happens. When you show up for your friends in the times of need, and I want to be a good friend to Jen and I will always be a good friend to her because I love her.’

Jen blamed her former assistant Stuart Smith for the fraud scandal she is embroiled in, as seen in the season three trailer for The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

‘I got played by Stuart Smith. I would not be in this thing at all if it wasn’t for Stuart,’ the 48-year-old said in the trailer.

Jen, who faces up to 14 years in jail, pleaded guilty in July to federal charges of organizing a $5 million telemarketing scam that preyed on hundreds of elderly people.

The Shah Squad CEO was talking to Heather and co-star Meredith Marks during the candid comments about her legal drama.

Seth Marks, who is Meredith’s husband, asked them ‘have either of ever asked Jen if she’s guilty of any of these charges?’ during the sneak peek.

In July, Jen pleaded guilty to federal charges of organizing a $5 million telemarketing scam that preyed on hundreds of elderly people.

She also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The US attorney dropped her second count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Jen said at the time she pleaded guilty that she ‘knew it was wrong’ and was ‘so sorry’ for the ‘many people’ that were harmed.

Stuart admitted his part in the same scam, pleading guilty in November 2021, agreeing to cooperate with federal prosecutors in their case against Jen.

She was charged in March last year, along with Stuart.

Jen faces 11-14 years behind bars with a restitution that can be up to $9.5 million; her sentencing is in November.

The Bravo star initially pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiring to commit wire fraud and conspiring to commit money laundering through telemarketing.

The US attorney’s office say that Shah used third parties’ names in an attempt to distance herself from the crimes.

She used and directed others to use encrypted messaging applications to communicate with other Participants and made numerous cash withdrawals structured to avoid currency transaction reporting requirements.

During the reunion show in March this year, Shah sobbed as she declared that she was ‘fighting’ the charges.

She said: ‘I’m innocent. I will fight this for every person out there that can’t fight for themselves because they don’t have the resources or the means, so they don’t fight.

‘I will fight because number one, I’m innocent, and number two I’m going to f***ing represent every other person out there that can’t fight and hasn’t been able to.’

Prosecutors claim that Shah orchestrated the complicated scheme to generate lists of potential victims, with the majority aged over 55.

She is accused of then selling those leads to telemarketing companies which would in turn try to sell business services to the victims.

Shah would then receive a share of the fraudulent revenue that the telemarketers generated according to court documents.
