Record-setting; Taylor Swift

Self-proclaimed ‘Swifties’ have once again proven their devotion to pop songstress Taylor Swift.

Her fans helped propel her new studio album, Midnights, to record-setting heights by making it the most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify history, according to the music streaming service as reported by Rolling Stone.

‘And before the clock could even strike midnight on October 22nd, Taylor Swift broke the record for most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify history. Congratulations, @taylorswift13,’ Spotify announced on Twitter.

Upon reading the Spotify tweet, Swift , 32, wrote, ‘How did I get this lucky, having you guys out here doing something this mind-blowing?! Like what even just happened??!?!’

While Spotify hasn’t released any official numbers, the total has to be more than 183 million streams since that was the old record held by Bad Bunny for its Un Verano Sin Ti album that dropped this past May.

Drake previously held the record with 176.8 million for Certified Lover Boy, which was released in September 2021.

It appears so many Swifties bombarded the Spotify app at the strike of midnight to listen to the new album that it briefly crashed, leaving fans scrambling tp figure out what had gone wrong.

According to Downdetector.com, Spotify saw a massive outage across the world at midnight ET, which was the exact time that Midnights was released.

Many of her fans took to social media platforms to express their frustration at the glitch.

In the end, the apparent outage appeared to last only a short moment, and fans were all then able to get their first listen to her new batch of songs.

Just a few hours after the initial drop of Midnights, Swifties got the surprise that she had been teasing with the release of Midnights (3am Edition) on the platform.

The special edition of the album includes an extra seven songs, brining the total number of tracks to the 3am Edition to 20 tracks.

Ahead of the release, the 11-time Grammy winner called Midnights as a concept album about nocturnal contemplation, describing it as a ‘journey through terrors and sweet dreams’, inspired by ’13 sleepless nights’ of her life.

The record was written and produced by Swift with longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, whose work with the songstress dates back to when the wrote Sweeter than Fiction for the film One Chance (2013).
