How is Thomasi Gilgeous-family?

Vaughn Alexander and Charmaine Gilgeous had a child named Thomasi Gilgeous-Alexander.

Early years

Gilgeous-Alexander was born in Toronto, Ontario, and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. His mother, Charmaine Gilgeous, was a track star who ran for Antigua and Barbuda at the 1992 Summer Olympics. When he was young, his father, Vaughn Alexander, was his coach. He started high school at St. Thomas More Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario, but later switched to Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School. He then went to Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Hamilton Heights Christian Academy for his junior and senior years to improve his basketball skills. He graduated from there in 2017.

Years in high school

He grew up in Hamilton. When he was in grade 9, he didn’t make the St. Thomas More junior team, so he played on the school’s midget team. He ended up getting Most Valuable Player and the city championship for midget boys. He went to Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School after that, and then in 2015, he went to Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He said, “I just thought I needed to play against better opponents.” Gilgeous-Alexander had an average of 18.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4 assists as a senior.

Gilgeous-Alexander was a four-star recruit, and ESPN said he was going to Florida. In October 2016, he changed his mind and started looking at other schools. He went to Kentucky, Kansas, Syracuse, Texas, and UNLV as his last five schools. The next month, he told everyone that he would be going to Kentucky to play college basketball. He played for the World Select Team at the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit. He played for 21 minutes and scored 11 points.

Going to college

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander started the 2017–18 season as a backup player, sitting behind the freshman point guard Quade Green. He still played an average of over 30 minutes per game, though. After a tough loss to UCLA, Alexander went off against Louisville in December. He scored 24 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, gave out 4 assists, and stole 3 balls. Gilgeous-Alexander had long hair the first time he went to the University of Kentucky. But he cut his hair early in the season, and some people say that was the first step on his way from being the sixth man to being the starting point guard. He still led the team in the next two games, against Georgia and LSU. Against Georgia, he scored 21 points, and against LSU, he scored 18. He was always helpful to a UK team that was “struggling” and lost four games in a row during the season. He started along with Hamidou Diallo, Nick Richards, Kevin Knox, and P. J. Washington, all of whom were freshmen. Even though his team lost, his PPG went up to 12.9. He also got 3.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game. Gilgeous-Alexander had a great SEC Tournament and carried that momentum into the NCAA Tournament. After playing great basketball against Davidson and Buffalo in the first two rounds, Kentucky’s luck ran out in the Sweet 16 and they lost to Kansas State. The last time Gilgeous-Alexander played college basketball, he missed a three-point shot at the buzzer. He entered the 2018 NBA Draft on April 9, 2018.
