The doctor is in — again.

Kate Walsh is returning to the role that made her a TV star: Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery. She will reprise her career-making character in a multi-episode arc during Season 18.

Walsh’s Addison is the famed gynecological and neonatal surgeon who was once wed to Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd (former cast member Patrick Dempsey, 55), and boasts a complicated history with title character Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo, 51).

“I’m so excited to be home again,” the 53-year-old actress confirmed Thursday via the official Instagram for ABC’s long-running medical soap opera.

The announcement — the latest in a series of return appearances by past cast members such as Dempsey, Isaiah Washington, T.R. Knight, Chyler Leigh and Eric “McSteamy” Dane — sent the account’s 8.4 million followers into a bona fide fan frenzy. (A few former co-stars go into the comment act, too.) The post had more than 1 million likes as of Friday morning.

Addison’s storyline for Season 18 has not yet been revealed, Deadline reported.

Thus far, Emmy winners Sandra Oh, 50, and Katherine Heigl, 42, now are the only original leads not to return to the series for at least a cameo appearance. Fans shouldn’t hold out much hope for “The Chair” and “Killing Eve” star’s return, as Oh recently lamented how “traumatic” her time was on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

As for the star of Netflix’s acclaimed “Firefly Lane,” the outspoken Heigl said earlier this year, “I don’t know — but I would never say never.”

Walsh made her “Grey’s Anatomy” debut in 2005 the Season 1 cliffhanger as Dr. Derek Shepherd’s estranged wife. Initially booked as a recurring character, she clicked with fans and quickly became a series regular. Show creator Shonda Rhimes later created “Private Practice,” a spinoff built around Addison, who relocated to Los Angeles. The series ran for six seasons from 2007 to 2013.

She went on to star in the series “Bad Judge” and “13 Reasons Why” and recently recurred as The Handler in the first two seasons of Netflix’s hit comic book adaptation “The Umbrella Academy,” and guest-starred on “Emily in Paris.” Her film credits include “Under the Tuscan” sun with Diane Lane, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” with Emma Watson, “Honest Thief” with Liam Neeson and “TK” with John Cusack. She is currently starring in the sci-fi drama “3022,” now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Season 18 of “Grey’s Anatomy” premieres Sept. 30 on ABC.
