He’s no stranger to an on-screen innuendo, having been regularly left in hysterics by co-star Holly Willoughby.

And Phillip Schofield struggled to contain his laughter during Monday’s This Morning as Clodagh McKenna made a very cheeky comment during a fiery debate about scones.

The chef, 46, asked the presenter whether he prefers to put cream on ‘top or bottom’ of the jam in the iconic bake, sparking an amused response from the host and his hosting partner Rochelle Humes.

After Clodagh demonstrated an array of recipes that included rhubarb as an ingredient, she asked Phillip for his thoughts on including cream on a scone.

She said: ‘Are you on top or are you on bottom?’

Chuckling Phillip responded: ‘Cream definitely on top!’ while members of the show’;s crew could be heard laughing behind the camera.

Phillip then alluded to his recent decision to quit Twitter, noting Rochelle and Clodagh could continue to debate the topic on social media but he wasn’t getting involved.

He added: ‘You can row as much as you like you can’t contact me!’

In April Phillip revealed that he decided to delete the Twitter app from his phone, because he wants ‘no part of it’ in his life – although his account remains active.

He branded the platform ‘a cesspit’ and asserted that there are ‘vile and disgusting’ trolls on it.

Discussing Elon Musk buying Twitter and the suggestion that all users may have to be verified, Phillip asserted: ‘There’s the side of the argument where, if you’re gonna say something, make sure you can back it up with your own name.

‘If that isn’t the case, then it could become even more of a cesspit than it already is. I’ve deleted it off my phone. And I’ll quite openly say that…

‘Because, there is a section that is wonderful and magnificent and funny and informative…. And there is a section that is vile and disgusting and I want no part of it in my life.’

Philip has not deactivated his Twitter page, but hasn’t engaged with in months, with his last sent a tweet in December 2021.

The presenter is still active on Instagram – where he boasts 3 million followers – but has comments on his photos turned off.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
